George and I didn't release each other's hands until we got to the hospital room that was practically empty apart from Dot fast asleep in the hospital bed and Paul sat next to her, his eyes red and puffy from crying. The hospital room was dimly lit with just a single warm light over the bed that Dot was sleeping in. There were no cards and no flowers. She must have just got here.
My blurred attention finally focused and I noticed that there was in fact another boy, stood in the centre of room one of his hands resting on the end of Dorothy's bed the other holding a bouquet of beautiful pink lilies. The boy looked a little older than Paul and George and also somewhat familiar but I couldn't put my finger on where I'd seen him before.
His nose was a little large and he was shorter compared to the other boys, his hair was fluffy on top of his head and he had a small scruff on his chin, his fingers were covered in rings, I guess that's where he got his nickname.
"Alright Ringo?" George spoke softly placing his hand on Ringo's shoulder who turned to look at the two of us.
Ringo! He's the drummer of Rory's band, I've heard Mandy talk about him a little."Heya George." He whispered looking sorrowful at the situation as he turned back to Paul who was now stood up noting our arrival. He began walking slowly towards us, looking like he was about to break down at any minute.
"Paul mate I'm so-" George started shaking his head lost for words before being engulfed in a heartbroken hug from Paul who was sobbing into his shoulder. I'd never seen Paul upset, it was breaking my heart.
"That was my baby George, our baby. I wasn't even here to help her." He sobbed as George held him tighter.
"I know mate." George sniffled patting Paul's back comfortingly,
My eyes filled with tears seeing Paul in this way, he then turned his attention to me and wrapped me into a hug.
"Oh Amelia I'm sorry you have to see this." He apologised as I stroked his back calmingly.
"Don't be silly Paul, I just want to make sure you're both alright." I explain struggling to hold back my tears.
Paul lingered on the hug a little longer before returning to his sweetheart's side."Amelia, aren't you Mandy's sister?" Ringo asked trying to put the attention on to something else.
I nodded, wiping the tears away from my eyes.
"I'm Ringo, I've heard a lot about you, mainly from George you know." He chuckled lowly nudging George slightly who looked down embarrassed. After a moment of silence Paul gasped.
"Hey guys she's waking up. I haven't had the chance to see her yet." He said quickly grabbing hold of Dots hand as she came around. Her eyes were swollen and her lips were dry. Her tear stained cheeks were red and warm.
"Hey Darlin' how are you feeling?" Paul spoke softly rubbing his thumb over her fragile hands, fighting hard to push back his tears to appear strong in front of his girl.
Dot immediately burst into tears at Paul's words.
"I - I - I'm so sorry Paulie!" She sobbed finding it hard to catch her breath.
Me, George and Ringo immediately sprinted to the other side of her and I wrapped my arms around her tightly as she burrowed her face into my neck.
"Don't you dare apologise Dorothy Rhone, this was not your fault." Paul spoke unable to hold back his tears any longer.
"But - but that was our baby Paul and now he's gone, I've lost him." She continued sobbing leaving Paul unable to find any words as he just continued to stroke her hand.
