Mom, Dad,
I know there have been times in my life when I have disappointed and sinned against you, and for those times, I am deeply sorry. Please forgive me. I know that because of the things in my past, you felt that you went wrong as parents. Nothing could be further from the truth. You were better parents to me than I could have ever hoped for. And for the few times that you have failed me, I forgive you.
I know that, because of my courageous sister, you'll be losing not one, but both of your children this day. For this, I am sorry, but I can no longer stray from the will of God, nor will I ask Alice to do so. And maybe you won't understand exactly why we need to do this, to willingly lay down our lives today, but please understand that this is a great honor that we've been given. The world tells us it is foolish, which is exactly why it's wise.
I also know that you'd be the first to protest that the child is never supposed to die before the parent, and Felicity said the same thing when Peter died, but sometimes life is funny like that. Continue to fight the good fight. Never lose hope. I will be watching over you, as my biological mother has been so careful to watch over me.
As Saint Joan of Arc said before her martyrdom, of the same kind, I might add, “I am not afraid. I was born to do this.” I have no fear, and I can guarantee that Alice is unafraid as well. Don't worry about us. Cry for us, if you must, but please try to understand that from our perspective there is nothing to cry about.
I love you both,
Oliver
