(Chase P.O.V)
"God I need a drink." I mumble to myself. My mother is stressing me out over my father again. I can't help a man who doesn't want help. I can't make him stop drinking and abusing her. He has to want it for himself. She has to want help too. She has to want to leave and start a new life for herself like I did. I love my parents but I need my own life and I need to live it my way. So I left the day after I graduated high school to start my own life. To change myself from becoming like my father.
I lean on my elbows againist my desk and massage my temples.
"Is everything okay Sir?" I hear my assistant ask me from my doorway.
"Yes Jenna just family issues. Do you have the charts I asked for?" I ask.
"Yes Sir. And the lay out for your next project. All it needs is your approval and signature and it is all ready to go." she smiled. She is a damn good assistant.
"Hows your little boy doing? Still playing t-ball for The Heaters?" I ask.
"Oh yes. And getting more and more competitive with each game. I swear he is like his father. You would thing he his playing major league for The Braves or something." she rolled her eyes.
"It's a boy thing. You should have seen me and the guys playing dodge ball in school. It was very important." I nodded my head and smiled. She through her head back and laughed. She was more than just my assistant; she was my close best friend.
"Take a break Jenna. Hell it's almost time to leave and I am sure you finished next weeks work." I joked with her.
"Thanks Chase. As a matter of fact I have finished all that needs to be done. I can't possibly be done until you tell me what is coming up thank you very much. So what's going on with your family?" she asked me.
"My father again of course. My mom is waiting for him to change and he won't. She just won't leave and she thinks I can snap my fingers and he will magically sober up! I had to tell her that there is nothing I can do. I have my own life to live and I am not going to be sucked back into that one. I worked my ass off to get to where I am today at my age and I won't lose it." I rambled to her.
"I understand Chase. Just try not to worry. It's not your place anymore. Your mature way beyond your years. I mean look at what you accomplished at the young age of 22! Your own Designer Building Company! You have your own life and you need to live it. Your parents are adults and don't need and babysitter." she said to me. I smiled and gave her a hug.
"Thanks Jenna. I needed that." I said
"Want to get a drink with me?" I asked. I rarely drink. I don't want to get depend it on it for my problems but sometimes it is nice just to get out and not be alone with my thoughts.
"I can't. I promised my son a night of Legos and blanket forts!" she said and smiled.
"Oh boy! You wild animal you!" I laughed.
"Oh hush. It is fun building blanket forts. You go have fun. If you find a hot man use a condom and always practice safe sex!" she said. I rolled my eyes and told her to leave. She winked and walked away.
I gathered my charts and lay outs and left. He drove to the bar he rarely went to but would never go anywhere else. It was called Midnight Madness but always stayed busy from the time it opened to the time it closed. I parked in the back and took off my suit jacket and tie. Unbuttoned the first to button and rolled up the sleaves of my shirt to my elbows. God that felt better; I don't feel so suffocated.
I opened up the door and scanned for seats. I notice and very drunk man stumble up and walk to the dance floor. I quickly claim his seat and sit down.
"Just a moment I will be right with you." I hear the bartender say. Holy shit. This guy was in hot pink ripped skinny jeans. A black muscle shirt ripped down the sides and a black studded belt. His face was hidden behind his dark hair and he was wearing a beanie. He did have a nice ass though and his tattoos were beautiful from what I could see of them. He turned to me getting ready to take my order and stopped in his tracks.
His eyes widened and his mouth fell open. Was there something on my face? What the hell? Wait...he looked familiar to me.
"Chase?" he said. What? Who was he. Think Chase think. Oh my God it can't be. Christian. The boy I bullied for years in high school.
"Christian? Oh man look at you!" I said. Way to go Chase. Way to sound completely stupid. Wow...he was beautiful. He was always beautiful.
"Look at me! What can I get you?" he asked. Still a smart ass.
"Just a beer." I say. He bent down to get my order and gave me a very nice view.
Quit staring Chase. This boy probably hates your guts.
"Here ya go. Enjoy." he turned to walk away.
"Wait! Uh...well...how have you been all these years?" I asked him. He turned back to me.
"I have been good. Just tattooing and bartending. What about you?" he asked.
"I own my own business. I design stuff." I say. He leaned on the bar.
"What do you design?" he asked.
"Buildings. I make hotels or anything anyone wants." I say proudly. He smiled and my heart thumped a little harder. His smile always done that me. Now instead of pissing me off and making me confused it made me want him more. After all these years it still affects me.
"That's cool. Sounds like you just bloomed after you graduated." he said.
"Well look at you! Tattoos and piercings. What happened to the Christian in highschool?" I asked. Before he could answer I saw a man walking up to him.
"What are doing Christian? Are you finally taking a break! I think I might die of a heart attack! When was the last time you took a break from work?" the man asked. That must be his boss. Christian laughed and punched the man in the arm.
"The last time I took a break from working was probably the last time I was on chemotherapy boss. I have to go Chase. Nice seeing you again." he walked away from me.
My face was probably one of shock.
Chemotherapy?
Christian had cancer? What the hell.
