"Valencia you better get up soon! Cayden isn't a lenient person and won't go easy on you for being late to practice." Conrad said as he knocked on Valencia's bedroom door.

"I'm up. I'm up!" Valencia yelled back trying to brush her hair into a pony tail and look for a lost glove at the same time. She finally found it and ran out of her room. "Okay I'm going! Bye!" She said frantically running out of the house while Conrad just shook his head and created a portal.

"You're a witch for God's sake! You don't need to run for the next 20 minutes." He said.

Valencia jumped in without saying anything and soon found herself panting in front of the abandoned building they were supposed to train in. The building had a basement and Cayden had converted it into a sort of gym for her. He hadn't gotten permission to train her in his mansion where he'd normally train so he was doing this secretly on Conrad's request.

"You're late." Cayden said curtly as he played with one of his arrows.

"I know, I know. I'm sorry. It's only by 3 minutes though."

"If you're not gonna be serious about this then I'll stop wasting my time here."

Valencia stared at him wondering why he was so mad. She brushed it off. "Okay, I'm sorry, what am I supposed to do?"

Cayden didn't say anything but charged at her with a long wooden pole and Valencia, not knowing what to do just threw a recently learnt 'stun' spell at him. Cayden easily dodged it and managed to knock Valencia off of her feet.

"I wasn't ready! You could've said something!" She said as she got up to her feet holding Cayden's outstretched hand.

"An enemy isn't gonna declare his or her intentions and then come forth. You should be ready for anything and everything." As soon as he said this he started playing with the pole coming towards Valencia ready to attack her. Valencia moved back and saw a pole on the floor and quickly dived to pick it up. Cayden let her and stopped himself from hitting her clearly defenseless state. She tried to fight back with the pole but failed miserably. It was too long for her and she couldn't handle it. So the next two hours were spent on teaching Valencia how to defend herself with various objects.

Valencia, tired just sat down in one of the corners of the basement as Cayden made his way out. He picked up his bags and Valencia noticed his brown hair that were just long enough to fall over his eyes. She felt annoyed looking at that one of strand that was nearly in his eye as she hated her hair falling onto her face. She wanted to reach out and push it back but suddenly she noticed a movement in the corner of her eye.

She looked over but saw nothing and then saw a shadow on the other side of the room. Fear overcame her as she imagined one of the Pures ready to attack knowing she didn't know much about fighting. Cayden had walked out a while ago and she knew he had work to do. She didn't know what to do but she got ready with a spell, constantly repeating it in her mind. When the figure in the shadows just came out and stood in the dim light of the gym in all her glory.

"Mom?" Gasped Valencia unable to believe her eyes. She blinked her eyes and rubbed them to see if she was hallucinating or just imagining it but she wasn't. Her mother approached her and just smiled at her.

"Valencia!" She gasped and tried to envelop her in a hug. But Valencia was frozen not knowing what to do. She flinched as her mother's cold hand cupped her cheek and she looked at her lovingly. Valencia just stood there.

"Baby, it's me. Don't worry. I'm here now. I don't know how I'm here. But I am. I tried to reach to you before but I couldn't. And now I can! Isn't this lovely dear?" She said tears brimming her eyes but a wide smile lit up her beautiful face.

Valencia finally registered what was happening and pulled her mom into a tight hug and started sobbing. "How are you here? Am I imagining you? What- why- I don't even know what to ask you." She said between sobs.

"I don't know darling. One moment I'm standing in total and utter darkness looking at a bright gate and the next I'm standing beside you. Watching you shoot purple glitter from your hands and then you saw me. I was so happy. But then you couldn't anymore, and now you can. Again. I don't know how long this lasts or what's happening."

"I'm a witch. That's the purple glitter, it's my magic. How, Conrad said people who become ghosts decide not to go over to the other side. Mom why did you do that? Now you're stuck like this." Valencia said, confused about a lot of things.

"I don't think I'm a ghost baby, I feel different. I can touch you, and stand on the ground. I thought you brought me back to life!"

Valencia felt ashamed all of a sudden. She hadn't brought her family back to life knowing that a spell existed to do so, it came with a lit of consequences and Conrad hadn't allowed her to. But she hadn't even tried. "Um..no. I don't know how to, I'm sorry."

"No, no. It's okay. Let's go back home. What are we doing here?" Her mother said but Valencia just shook her head as fresh tears brimmed her eyes, "Mom, the house burnt down. I'm sorry, I couldn't save you. Or the house, or anyone. I'm so sorry mom."

Her mother just hugged her shushing her, "No no. You don't have anything to apologise for."

Valencia tried to think rationally, she didn't know how her mother was back to life. Even though it was great, it was suspicious. It shouldn't have happened. She knew she had to take this it Conrad, he'd know what to do. But there was a small fear in her that he'd send her mother back. How or why she didn't know,  but she already knew he would do something like that.

"Uh mom you wanna get out of here? I can take you to Conrad's house, it's where I'm living. I'm sure you can freshen up there and we can start talking about all of this after that." Her mother just nodded and leaned in on Valencia and Valencia just felt an overwhelming feeling of proctiveness over her mother and held her hand tightly.

"You wanna walk there or portal there?" She asked fully aware her mom didn't know what portalling meant.

"Portal? What is that?" She asked.

Valencia didn't say anything as a reply and instead built the portal. The bright purple swirl shined over the entire basement and her mother gasped in surprise.

"It is so pretty! And you know purple is my favourite color!" Her mom said her voice shaking with awe. Valencia smiled still in shock over what was happening.

"Come on." She said as she held her mother's hand tightly and she just followed Valencia not questioning anything.

Seconds later they were in front of Conrad's house and Valencia took in a deep breath and  knocked on the door. The door opened and as usual there was no one opening it. Valencia's mom gasped at that and Valencia explained the mechanism. Conrad wasn't careless in just opening the door like that for anyone.  He could see who was outside and then only did he open it.

"Conrad, I think I really need your help." Valencia declared as she walked in on him mixing two potions. He looked over and raised his eyebrow is question. Valencia gulped.

"Con, meet my mom. Mom, this is Conrad."

Conrad got up his eyes wide, "Valencia, what did you do?" He asked in a low dangerous voice and Valencia sighed.
