The next morning Conard expected to see Valencia locked in her room, actively ignoring him. So he was surprised to see her walk out of her room and sit down in front of him at the table as if nothing had happened.
He noticed her swollen, red eyes but didn't say anything regarding them.
"So there's this party tonight, it's like an annual meeting of sorts but also a party. You can come if you want to. It's all warlocks and witches. Maybe a vampire or werewolf might attend. They don't usually."
"Why?" Was all Valencia replied with.
"Why is the party there? It just is. It's like we meet and discuss what all has happened within the community. Any and all complaints are addressed and sometimes someone is punished if they have committed any huge crimes. And yeah, it's all fun." He said slowly, unsure of everything in that moment.
He knew how to comfort people that were obviously sad. He also knew Valencia was sad. She had to be. But she wasn't talking about it and he felt like if he did, he wouldn't be respecting her decision and therefore was confused.
Valencia just nodded, lost in thought. "So are you coming along?" He asked.
"When is it again?" Valencia's voice was hoarse but she seemed to be holding it together.
"Tonight."
"Okay." With that she got up and walked out of the kitchen and into her room. She had been thinking of what Zaniel had said. That he'd harm everyone she'd ever known. He'd already killed her entire family. She wanted to visit her friends' houses and put protective spells on them. That way if any magic was used in that house, it would immediately dissolve into thin air and not harm anyone.
She picked up a book and flipped through the spells. She found the one which allowed her to memorise things quicker and she had used it a lot since she'd found out about it.
She memorised all the protective spells she knew she would need, built a portal and withing seconds was in front of Celeste's house. Being there brought back many memories and she felt her heart feel heavier. Her head spun with the fun times she had had with her and felt sad she couldn't relive them.
Valencia took her time with the spells as she knew no one was home. Celeste would be in school and her parents in their respective offices. She walked around the house muttering the words and feeling like she was at home. She came across the small tent they both had built when they were 7. She knew Celeste had put it away so she wondered why it was out.
She opened the tent's zipper slowly when she heard someone scream. She backed up quickly and immediately put an invisibility spell on herself. She held in her breath as she saw Celeste emerge from the tent. She looked around and then on seeing no one she stood up and walked into the house.
Valencia felt pain stab her multiple times as Celeste just stared through her. She desperately wanted to talk to her. She wanted to know why Celeste wasn't in school and was in the tent. She wanted to tell her all about the horrible things she was experiencing and knew she would make them all better.
But she also knew she wasn't supposed to talk to her. Well, she wasn't supposed to talk to her as Valencia, no one said Celeste wasn't to talk to a random stranger. She already had her disguise on and so she took in a deep breath and knocked on the door. She remembered she still had her invisibility spell on and so she removed it.
Her heart sped up as she realised she had to idea what to say to her. Before she could run for it, Celeste opened the door.
"Hello. Can I help you?"
"Um..hi. Ah..um..I'm kinda lost right now. Sorry." Valencia stammered as she millions of thoughts raced through her head.
"Okay..do you not know where you are? I feel like you should. I've seen you around here before."
