Valencia slowly walked over to his body that lay motionless on the floor when the eerily quiet room was filled with blinding green light and everything started to fly around the room from the power of the portal that appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the room.
Valencia looked at it, standing in front of her mother and saw a man come out of it with a few people following him. She didn't know what to do as he just stood in the middle of the room and smiled at her. She tried to think of a spell but her mind drew a blank. She only knew the killing spell as of that moment so she kept it in her mind as a way to fight back.
The man, after a while just started walking around the room. His presence was intimidating and everything about him screamed 'don't mess with me'. He kicked Conrad's body and he didn't give any response.
"So you finally got rid of his annoying self? I must say, I'm grateful. He truly was a horrible person to have in your life. Always trying to do the right thing. Ugh" the man finally spoke up, looking directly at Valencia. His blazing green eyes and cocky smirk made Valencia want to hit him. She also felt the burn of guilt course through her as she heard the words 'kill' and 'Conrad'.
She hadn't wanted to kill him, but she had. And now she had to live with that burden all her life. She wanted to cry, she wanted to fight the man on front of her but all she could do was stand there.
"Cat got your tongue? Val, talk to me! We used to be such good friends. Why did you forget me?"
Valencia just stared at him. She hadn't seen him anywhere in her memories. Neither had she read about him anywhere in her diaries. This was definitely an attempt to use her loss of memory as a way to fool her.
He then bent down and moved Conrad's arms away from his body and started to murmur a spell. Valencia realised quickly that the spell was one that would send waves of shock through a person, and also knew very well it hurt, a lot. She didn't understand why he was casting that spell but she knew she didn't want Conrad to feel that pain.
She was about to throw the 'stun' spell at him when her mother grabbed her from her neck and one of the men that had followed the man through the portal came forward and had put a pair of handcuffs around her wrist. It all happened so quickly, she had hardly seen it happen.
"Mom! What are you doing?" She gasped as her mother's arm around her neck tightened. She tried to escape the grasp, but it was unbelievably strong.
She tried to throw more spells but nothing happened. She looked down at the handcuffs and realised they were restricting her. She heard the man laugh loudly.
"Oh don't blame your mother. I resurrected her so I control her. Also, don't waste your energy on trying to do a spell. You won't be able to. The handcuffs are special."
Valencia glared at him wishing looks could kill.
"Oh you aren't going to say anything?" He asked, "Oh Zaniel why is my mother under your control? And what do you want from me? Why am I here?" He said in a mocking tone and a high pitched voice angering Valencia even more. She rolled her eyes.
"You're seriously not going to ask? Well you're boring." Zaniel said dramatically and plopped down on of the chairs.
He seemed to be thinking and the whole room was quiet except for the whispers between the man and woman that had come along with him. The man was giggling quietly and Valencia wondered why he was working with Zaniel. The woman was beautiful with her brown skin and dark hair.
Valencia looked over at Zaniel and noticed how strikingly white his hair were. They almost shone under the light. His fair skin looked flawless and then he suddenly seemed to get an idea and stood up with a wide smile on his face.
"If you won't talk, your mother will be harmed. You know I can do that." Valencia sighed.
"What do you want me to say?" She asked as her mother's grasp around her neck loosened. She almost wanted to kick her and move away, she knew she could. But she couldn't find it within her to do so.
Zaniel grinned. "Ask me questions. I love when the victim is desperately asking the questions and the villain just answers them. It's the best part of any book. I'll tell you one thing though, you deserve all of what I'm going to do to you."
Valencia almost shook her head. She was thinking about what to say when she saw him snap his fingers. The next thing she knew was that she was finally free but her mother was thrown across the room onto the wall. She screamed as did her mother and Valencia rushed forward to her.
But Zaniel just stopped her with a spell. The man came and pushed Valencia to the ground on her stomach. His foot was on her back and he seemed to be putting all his weight on her. Zaniel bent down to her, "Now do you have anything to say?"
Valencia gasped out a weak 'why' only to be struck on the head with something hard. Her vision blurred as her head throbbed with pain. The ringing sound was echoing in her ears and she saw her mother crying trying to fight off the woman holding her, just as she was holding Valencia.
Valencia tried to get up but to no avail. Then she heard Zaniel say something but she couldn't understand him. Finally, he left her alone and was talking to her mother. All she could do was lie on the ground and now stare at the windows. She saw Zaniel walk in front of them and suddenly she imagined all the windows shattering and hitting Zaniel and his two minions.
She played out the scenario in her mind and her eyes opened to loud screams and the feeling of something sharp hitting her. She was shocked and didn't know what to do except get up and run to her mother. She picked her up and rushed to Conrad and for the first time noticed the dart on his arm. That's why he was knocked out and not healing. She pulled it out and dragged him into her room along with her mother.
She walked around the room trying to find something to help her break the handcuffs when a spell finally did. She looked over at Conrad and saw him standing with a smile on his face. He was leaning on her mother. She smiled back at him when she heard Zaniel yell a spell that would open the locked door of her room. She quickly made a portal and they jumped through it as quickly as they could.
Valencia had thought of the bridge she loved so much and so they reached there through the portal. Unfortunately Zaniel managed to follow them.
Valencia and Conrad stood in front of her mother and held her so as to prevent Zaniel from doing anything. Conrad was already throwing spells at Zaniel which he was expertly dodging. Valencia threw one along with Conrad but Zaniel managed to escape it as well. Zaniel was advancing towards them a wicked smile on his face. He then realised the spells were getting harder to dodge, so he just opened a portal and before escaping, Valencia saw him mutter a spell, one she didn't recognise and then he was gone.
She turned around and hugged her mother glad he was gone and she was okay. Her mother hugged her back and was in the middle of saying something when Valencia felt her fade away.
She moved back and stated in horror as her mother disappeared into the thin air as if she was a mere hallucination. Conrad came and stood behind Valencia and pulled her into a hug as she realised what had just happened.

Yeah, she's dead. But Conrad's not! Good news right? Also new character! Zaniel. Definitely the bad guy. Any ideas on why he's doing what he's doing? Let me know what you thought of the chapter.
Don't forget to vote! All love💜
