Grabbing his backpack and a thin black jacket, Jay jumped downstairs and yelled loud enough for the entire house to hear.

"I'M GONNA HANG OUT WITH RICH! BYE!"

He held the door open for a few seconds with a smile on his face already knowing what was going to happen.

"WAIT WAIT WAIT! DON'T LEAVE YET!" His mom's voice echoed from the kitchen. Steps were heard and then a figure appeared from corner of the hallway. She came to him panting holding her wallet. Jay just looked down to her containing a laugh.

"Do you have enough money?" His mom asked already taking a 10€ bill out of her wallet.

"Yeah, I do, don't worry about it"

"But take this too, you never know" She pushed the money against his closed hand.

"Mom I don't need it, really"

Jay was already used to his mom giving him money before going out. At first he loved it, he would even pretend to hang out with Rich so his mom would give him more and more money. But at some point he started feeling bad for her, I mean, growing up comes with gaining responsibility and knowing what's right and wrong, and basically stealing from his hardworking mom was just too wrong, specially now that his mom would also give him a monthly allowance.

She pushed the bill hard enough to get stuck in his hand and then left saying goodbye. He sighed and saved the crumpled bill in his pocket. His mind wandered off as he walked down the street towards the bus station. Before he knew it he was already in front of Rich's apartment building. Luckily, a lady was leaving with her dog and held the door for him, he nodded as to thank her and clicked the elevator button. While waiting for the elevator to come down he noticed a girl sitting down in the lobby staring at her phone and murmuring to herself, her leg hitting the floor repeatedly as she bit the nails from her left hand. She looked like she was having a moment, anxiety running through her entire body. Jay could only wonder the cause of such panic, she didn't even see him come in, it was like she was in her own bubble.

When the elevator arrived, it sounded a small "bing" and that was enough to scare the girl, because from that small noisd she looked up and stuttered some words.

"W-WHAT? WHO?"

Jay got in quickly before she could see him. He clicked on the 10th floor and waited patiently for the door to close. The elevator went up and Jay sighed from the sudden stress. He walked out when it reached the 10th floor and walked down the small hall with 4 doors. Once he was in front of his friend's door be rang the doorbell. Seconds later he received a message.

"DUDE!"

He read the last messages and remembered that Rich's mom wasn't supposed to know he was coming. He quickly opened the emergency stairs' door and hid. He held his breath as an old familiar voice spoke.

"Hello? Is anyone there? Hellooo? Rich did you invite anyone here today?"

"No mom! I told you I was gonna study!"

"Hmmm"

The door closed and Jay received another message.

"You're really stupid you know. Wait a bit, I'll open the door for you when my mom isn't looking."

He opened the door slowly but immediately closed it when he saw the same girl from downstairs step out of the elevator and head towards Rich's apartment door. She breathed in deeply and talked to herself.

"C'mon, breath in, breath out, you can do this... You can DO THIS!"

Jay felt a bit bad for spying on this random girl but he didn't have a choice so... Also, she was in the way, it's not like he could just walk past her.
