He tossed and turned trying to ignore the loud music blasting from his phone. It didn't matter what it was, it could even be his favourite music ever but if he wanted to sleep he would absolutely despise any type of melody that would play. That was one of the main reasons why he put his alarm clock with sounds of animals instead of an up beat song. He once tried putting something from his favourite band but after a week he was absolutely over the band and any type of thing they posted.
When he finally looked up to his phone, rage filled every part of his body.
"What"
"Good morning sleepy head. Love hearing your voice first thing in the morning" Rich spoke with a flirty tone.
"What do you want" Jay grabbed his phone like it was a stress ball.
"I actually wanted to ask you a favor."
A loud groan came from Jay's throat lasting some good ten seconds.
"Wait" Jay put the call on hold and rubbed this eyes. He prayed to whatever might be up above for pity and then picked up his phone again.
"What is it?"
"Well, you remember Sam, right?"
His mood shifted immediately. He held on to his phone with both hands opening his eyes wide with curiosity.
"Yeah!"
"She texted me today, she wants to meet up"
"Oh, lucky you then" His disappointment was obvious to see, even through his voice.
"Jay, she thinks you're me"
Then it hit him. Yes! She thought he was Rich!
Oh no....
This smelled like trouble...
"So..." He thought for a bit before talking again. "What do you expect me to do?"
"Go out with her pretending to be me."
"What?! No, that's just stupid, are you kidding me?"
Rich cut him off: "Dude, dude... Chill... I'm not asking you to be me. I was just wondering if you could this one thing. I promise, it's just this time."
"What do you mean 'just this time'?" Jay was getting more and more confused and suspicious.
"She will obviously want to talk to me again and I will, obviously, talk to her but I'm just feeling bad today and now that she already thinks you're me, it would be really nice if you could just hang for a while with her." He chuckled a bit. "Just don't go falling for her because her heart already belongs to me"
"PFFFFT-" Jay spat all over his sheets. "Yeah, I bet her heart is all about your boring ass hair."
"You think I don't remember you shitting on me yesterday?!" His voice got louder as he talked closer to the microphone. "I will fucking kill you if you repeat that, you hear me?"
Jay laughed from the ear rape.
"But you'll do it right? Just talk with her a bit. It's not a big deal."
Jay would normally say no to this type of thing, but it was Rich. He had a soft spot for Rich, he was his best friend. He rarely asked for anything... Right? Actually no. Rich was always dragging his friend to the worst situations. He was like those cartoon devils standing on someone's left shoulder telling them to do bad things. In fact, Jay started smoking because of him. Rich knew he could make his poor friend do almost anything for him. But it isn't like he took advantage of it, he still cared about him, he would just ask him to do things he was too lazy to do himself. I guess going out with his childhood girlfriend was one of those things.
"You know this is really messed up, right?"
"Yeah yeah, it's just one time. I'll tell her that it was a joke or something later. I'm just so comfy in my bed right now"
"BITCH" Jay smiled a bit not believing the bullshit coming from the other side of the phone. "I'm also REALLY fucking comfortable in my bed!"
"Oh, what's that? My pillow is calling me sorry."
"Don't you dare-" Jay was in middle of his sentence when the call ended. He chuckled and opened his messages. Rich was already texting him the details.
He read carefully while getting up and trying to put some old jeans with one hand.
"Where the hell is this?" He jumped around the room pushing the pants up while opening Google maps. He typed the address his friend had texted him, noticing it was a street close to his school.
He got a black t-shirt with a skull on it (the only clean t-shirt he had in his wardrobe) and picked up his classic grey jacket from his gamer chair. He went back to the messages to realize that the "date" wasn't going to start for another 2 hours. He sighed and used the opportunity to go eat. He yawned going down the stairs and when he arrived at the kitchen, his mom looked at him surprised.
"Jay? What are you doing here so early?" She took a sip of her coffee.
"It's not that early..." He said. He opened the fridge and took out a cartoon of milk.
"It's 11 am."
"So?" He looked at her with a proud face, almost as if he was too good for that conversation. He then turned around to take a box of cereal from the cupboard.
"Honey sit down, let me ask you something"
He sat down pouring the milk in a bowl.
"Be honest with me" She looked at him in the eye. "Did you pull an all nighter?"
"No mom, this is all Rich's fault"
"He woke you up?"
"Yup" He took a spoon full of cereals and shoved it down his mouth.
"Why? Is everything okay? Does he need anything?"
"No, he's fine" He took another bite. "We wants to hang out today"
"Oh well, you boys deserve some free time after studying so much these last weeks." She smiled high full of pride for her smart little boy, or at least that's what she thought.
Jay just laughed to himself while finishing his breakfast. As soon as the last drop of milk was drank, he got up and headed upstairs to grab his wallet and other essentials. He walked past a mirror hanging on the wall of the hallway and stared at himself for a bit. Fully awake now, he could see that he was a real mess. The t-shirt was upside down and his hair was so messy it looked like a hedgehog had fallen asleep in his head. He walked to his bathroom, fixed his shirt and took out his precious items to make him go from a loser that never leaves his room to a loser with style.
"First, hair"
He pulled out his brush and agressively pushed his hair down, just how mothers would do to their daughters in really old times. And after his hair was, well, acceptable, he took out his deodorant and just sprayed the shit out of that can. Under the armpits, between the legs, on his toes, everywhere. And deodorant was supposed to make his sweat not stink, but the way it's advertised it almost served as a perfume to get all the ladies dying for anyone who used it, though in this case the smell was so toxic and intense Jay could legit kill someone with it. Almost choking, he finished off by brushing his teeth like crazy, not worried about ruining his very fragile braces. And just like that he opened the door to breath the clean air and looked in the mirror again.
"Yessss, lookin' sharp"
He finger gunned himself and smirked. Something that would make anyone cringe, but hey, he was alone and we all do cringy things when we're alone.
He grabbed his phone and checked the time. He had about an hour until the "date" and he knew by experience that getting to that area of the city took him half an hour. For the first time in his life he decided to go early, Sam better watch out because this boy was breaking the family tradition of arriving at least 20 minutes late everywhere.
He got his shoes and small old fanny pack and headed out of his house.
