"I don't even wanna go but I know I'll need the extra credit."
Wyatt nodded his head, agreeing with Syd.
They made their way over to the theater, a huge one with everything anyone could ever need to make a box office movie.
"Fuck, I didn't know they had this here," Wyatt looked around, his voice echoing a little in the big space.
"Same."
They watched as the play went on, they seemed to be in rehearsals.
Syd and Wyatt took a seat in the auditorium, soon a few other people from their class started showing up for the club.
Wyatt watched as Alexa walked in, taking a seat in front of him. She hadn't noticed him.
The rehearsal was over and everyone waited.
"The fuck you doing here?" a familiar voice caught Wyatt off guard.
"Drama club or whatever. For extra credit, you in it too?" Wyatt grinned.
"Duh stupid. Move over." Crystal laughed, sitting next to him.
Syd introduced herself and they instantly got along.
"Good, I'm already seeing familiar faces. Y'all better be here everyday after class, that's how extra credit works," Everyone's eyes shot up at Tyler's distinct voice in the front.
"So in order for you guys to get to know each other, we're gonna do a little exercise."
"Fuck," Wyatt cursed under his breath. He hoped he didn't have to do anything out of his comfort zone; he liked staying behind the scenes.
"...I'm gonna get you guys in groups of four and then we'll talk about what I want you to do."
He started pointing around the room and putting people together.
"You four, a group."
"Me?" Alexa asked, unsure if it was her he was pointing to.
"Yeah. You're with rosy cheeks behind you," Tyler stated.
She nodded.
Wyatt's cheeks were always red; especially during the winter time's cold air.
"Rosy cheeks," Crystal nudged Wyatt, laughing as Syd joined in.
Everyone soon got up, standing next to their group.
"I'm Syd," she stated, shaking Alexa's hand first.
"I'm Crystal, this is Wyatt."
"I'm Alexa. You guys are in Tyler's class right?" She looked at Syd and Wyatt.
They nodded.
"What's your major?" Crystal asked.
"I wanna act. My counselor told me I'd have a better chance if I took a bunch of film classes too."
"Oh shit, me too! You in theater?" Crystal got excited.
"Yeah, the Tuesday Thursday class," Alexa smiled.
"I'm in the Monday through Thursday."
Wyatt and Syd stayed back, noticing they were already getting along.
Before they could talk anymore, Tyler instructed them on what to do next.
Everyone huddled closer around him as he spoke.
"I'm gonna make this shit easy. Just because it's the first day. For the next few minutes, I want you guys to decide on the best film of the decade. Tell me why you landed on that. Go."
They looked back at each other, confused.
"Let's just go around—,"
"I think Wolf is one of the bests." Alexa cut Wyatt off.
"Wolf? I mean yeah it got a lot of recognition but Tyler's best film is definitely A Boy is a Gun," Wyatt replied.
"Wolf got him his first Oscar nomination. He made that movie with almost no budget. It's definitely the best." Alexa argued.
"Just because it got hella awards doesn't mean it's the best. A Boy is a Gun is one of his more indie films and it didn't get the hype it deserved. That shit was good," Wyatt began to get defensive.
"What about See You Again?" Crystal tried to cut the tension. "That one did way better than A Boy is a Gun."
"Exactly. See You Again got nominated for the graphics in it alone. That shit was fire too," Syd agreed.
"I guess." Wyatt shrugged.
"Y'all have a minute left," Tyler shouted.
"What movie then?" Alexa looked back at her group.
"Fuck it, let's just do See You Again since ya'll won't agree." Crystal crossed her arms.
They nodded, clearly upset their choice movie didn't get picked.
Tyler began going around the room, the groups picking out movies they thought were the best in their opinion. Tyler would sometimes disagree, inserting his own point of view. Wyatt began to get nervous.
"Aight, this group." Tyler moved over to theirs.
"Uh, we think See You Again (2017) was one of the bests." Syd started.
"Y'all know you don't have to pick one of mine just because I'm here right? It's not gonna get you extra extra credit," he laughed.
"I mean, I said Wolf shaped the decade..." Alexa interrupted.
Wyatt rolled his eyes, saying something under his breath. Tyler caught it.
"You disagree?" Tyler asked.
Wyatt's eyes shot up.
"A Boy is a Gun (2019) is obviously the best. Like, the characters, the film score, the way you set it in the 80's, even the lighting and coloring is so right. It's considered indie but I think it should've gotten more," Wyatt stated. He didn't realize how in depth he was going until he noticed everyone staring at him.
Tyler didn't have a set expression on his face. He paced the room as he thought about what he'd just said, his hands in his pockets.
"Either way, it's why you're one of the best directors. Because it's so hard to chose which ones stand out," Alexa spoke, cutting the silence.
"They all do." Wyatt replied.
Other groups agreed, which led to an impromptu applause from the auditorium making Tyler laugh.
"Imma keep my eye on both of you." He stated, pointing at Alexa and Wyatt.
"The fuck does that mean?" Syd asked once Tyler had walked to the other end of the room.
"He picked his favorites," Crystal rolled her eyes jokingly.
Wyatt stood annoyed that Alexa had cut off his moment, Tyler was obviously getting to agreeing with him. He wondered what he would've said.
