After twelve long years, Steve Rogers had finally found closure. In Volunteering to return the infinity stones to their respective timelines, he'd been given a gift. He could finally close the door on a chapter of his life he never thought he could. Steve returned the soul stone and mourned his best friend's sacrifice. He'd gone back to the day he crashed the jet into the ice and gotten his dance with his best girl. But twelve years gave a man some perspective. He found a life, a family, and a purpose in the future. It was a life he wouldn't toss aside no matter how badly he wanted to return to his own timeline.
But just as he sought to return to 2023 and continue on with his life, Steve found himself stranded, a man out of time yet again. Without enough Pym Particles to return home and no hope of figuring out how to use them even if he did get his hands on some, Steve is forced to enlist the help of his allies, only they weren't his allies yet.
Hank Pym, a much older Howard Stark, and A young Nick Fury are his best chance to get home. The one person he didn't expect to pull into his plan was Agent Audrey Chen. In Steve's time with SHIELD, there were few names spoken of as highly as Agent Chen. The agent was as prolific as Peggy Carter herself. Only in Steve's time, Audrey Chen was dead.
Agent Chen was a hero, there was no other way to put it. Had she lived to see the time of The Avengers, she'd surely have been one of them. But in 1989, Agent Chen was murdered by Hydra, and Steve happened to land just six months before it happens. As Steve gets closer to returning home, he also finds himself growing attached to the woman he knew wouldn't last the year. The number one rule of time travel was not to interfere. Steve must choose between preserving his own timeline and saving the woman he's come to care for more than any other.

-- In this fic Steve always planned on returning to present day and not staying with Peggy
-- Many characters will be pulled into this fic all in 1984. Howard Stark, Fury, Peggy, the Pyms, etc.
-- I think a happy ending is in order for these two
-- Steve in the 80's giving top gun
-- there's so much potential for comedy because in this case, Audrey is the one not informed on pop culture and current events. Steve knows the future which means lots of references that will be lost on his company.
