"If I'm not crazy, then what am I?"

The first time Josie Alvarez heard the voices, she was six years old. At first, her parents assumed her ramblings were the result of an imaginary friend. It wasn't out of the ordinary for a child of her age to have an overactive imagination. But as she grew older, her imaginary friends remained an ever present fixture in her life. Josie never understood the need for her to see a therapist. The voices weren't hurting anyone, and she was perfectly fine the way she was.

At twelve, she had her first episode of Dissociative Personality Disorder. At least, that's what the doctors said it was. Josie couldn't remember doing any of the things they'd described. She'd been a completely different person. The meds were the worst, but at least they quieted the constant and ever growing buzz of voices.

It was only a matter of time before her parents checked her into Larkspur Lane Mental Institution. She lived out her teen years in a haze of medications and experimental therapies. Until one day, something powerful awoke in the heart of Larkspur Lane. A sinister presence began to terrorize the hospital and even the doctors couldn't deny the supernatural origins. They called in a priest to lock the spirit away from the rest of the institute and keep it's influence from spreading further.

But the spirit had already done irreparable damage. Josie now knew she wasn't sick at all, she wasn't normal either. She had a power no one else did, and she wouldn't allow herself to be suppressed any longer. The Ghost of Larkspur Lane couldn't be contained for long and she'd be ready for it when it came back.

The day Nancy Drew arrived was the day everything changed. She and her companions unwittingly released the dark spirit into the rest of the institute, and the building swiftly fell under its influence. With the help of Josie, Nancy and her friends destroyed the spirit, and along with it the mental institution that had been her prison for so many years.

Josie now has a chance at a new life, and she finds herself pulled into the fold of Nancy's mystery solving group. She learns that not only did they perform a ritual that awoke countless dormant ghosts, they're in the middle of two unsolved murders. Together, they must stop the growing evils and solve both murders before it's too late. All while deciphering the powers that landed her in Larkspur Lane to begin with.
