In over 2,000 years of life, Charlotte had never found love. Her life within the Volturi was a brutal one and her loyalties had always been to her siblings and ultimately, Aro. Charlotte, the youngest of the triplet vampires would always be the baby sister in the eyes of her siblings. Jane, the eldest and authority, kept Charlotte on a tight leash. There wasn't a decision that was made without Jane's approval. It was her choice to join the Volturi, serve beneath Aro, and live as sentinels, valuing vampires above all others.
Jane's cruelty and sadism didn't begin with her vampiric powers. She'd been cruel as a human and most often, sought to torture her little sister. Charlotte was not a fighter. She was quiet and observant, the cool and reasonable one of the triplets. She'd come to terms with her role, never craved more, never believed she deserved it.
When Edward Cullen threatens the secrecy of vampires by attempting to expose himself to humans, Aro's attention is turned on the town of Forks Washington. He gave the Cullens a choice, either kill Bella Swan or turn her within a year's time. However, Aro couldn't simply take their word that they'd abide by his ruling. The youngest and most controllable of the triplets is the obvious choice to send after them. But Aro didn't take into account the connection that would form between the youngest Cullen and his agent.
Charlotte discovers an undeniable connection between herself and Jasper Hale, a feeling she never thought she'd find. Away from the influence of her elder siblings and the cult of the Volturi, Charlotte is given a chance to find herself and decide on her own, the life she'd like to lead. Though her connection to the Volturi is not so easily severed and there is more at play than she was told. With Bella Swan's humanity still intact and the deadline fast approaching, Charlotte must make a choice and decide where her heart truly belongs -- With her family, or with Jasper Hale.
