"I love it when you stutter"
"Really? Cause I fucking hate it."

Eugene Montgomery was dead- well- sort of. His body was long gone, having physically died in 1955. For sixty seven years he's been forced to watch as the world evolved, as those he loved grieved, moved on, grew old, and eventually died too- all the while he was trapped between the worlds of living and dead.

When magic was shut off, Quentin Coldwater and his friends began a quest to find the seven golden keys. The key of truth was said to reveal all that is hidden to any that hold it. Apparently, that included spirits. For the first time since his death, Eugene was seen by a living being and given a second chance at life. But to regain his physical form, magic must be returned to earth.

With his newfound connection to the living world, memories begin to arise from his own life long before this modern world. The circumstances surrounding his death were suspicious at best, and Eugene may have discovered something that got him killed. In exchange for help in finding the truth of his death, Eugene vows to aid them in the quest for the seven keys.

Along their journey, Eugene grows close to Quentin, the awkward yet brilliant man he'd observed for years. Though he'd seen so much of Quentin's trials and tribulations, he never truly knew him. But if magic can't be returned, then their story will be doomed before it's even begun. Not only that, but Eugenes past is catching up with him, and if Quentin is in the way when it arrives, there's no guarantee he'll survive.

NOTES
I have two ideas for an ending one is bittersweet and one is happy so there's lots of options for where it could go.
