Friday arrived before I knew it. Miles was MIA the rest of the week. The best excuse Miles could come up with was that he had practice before and after school. We both thought it would be easier if I ride the bus for the time being. I can't help but feel like he is avoiding me for some reason.

The bell for first period rings as Miles yells for me from down the hall. "Mel! Hey, practice is cancelled after school if you want a ride home."

"That would be awesome!" I give him a slight grin."You can even come help me pick out an outfit for my date!"  I tease as bump into him.

Miles takes a deep breath before flashing his contagious smile "sure can."

"Thanks Miles." I say as I kiss him on the cheek before heading to class.

The cafeteria is packed full of people but Miles isn't here yet. I stood there awkwardly with my lunch tray as the nausea began to take over.

Miles is always here first and he never leaves me alone at lunch time. I wonder what's going on. I toss my lunch in the garbage can and headed towards the door.

I am stopped in my tracks when Declan comes up to me."Hey gorgeous are you ready for tonight?."

I reply "Of course!" before I smell the meatloaf on Declan's tray that causes me gag. I try to be polite as I attempt to make a get away. " I am sorry Declan but right now is not a good time."

Declan reaches for my hand and says. "Miles wanted me to give this to you."

I look down to see Declan is holding a chocolate granola bar.  I look at Declan puzzled and it's like he could read my mind.

"Miles said he had to run home real quick."

I give Declan a fake smile as I grab the breakfast bar from him and I hurry and leave.  The last thing I want is to puke in front of everyone.

The rest of the afternoon is a blur. I should be excited about my date with Declan but all I can think about is Miles. I should be upset that he stood me up but Miles has always been the most considerate person I know. I shouldn't be mad that he wasn't there today because he isn't my babysitter. Yet Miles still managed to make sure I had a granola bar for lunch. .

I walk around the parking lot searching for Miles. I am able to locate his car in his usual spot but Miles Is not here yet. I decide to go ahead and sit in his car and wait. I take a deep breathe and recognize his scent that overpowers his car. I would be lying if I said I didn't like it. The familiar scent instantly calms me down and I close my eyes as I wait.

Miles shows up about 20 minutes later and jumps in the driver's seat. "Mel glad you decided to make yourself at home."

I am startled to see Miles sitting beside me and I must have dozed off.

"Well what took you so long? You said you didn't have practice." I ask annoyed.

"I had to handle something real quick but it's no big deal." Miles shrugs it off.

"No big deal? I have to get ready for my date."

"I just saw Declan you have plenty of time."

"You ran into Declan? Did you talk to him? Did he say anything about me?" I ask eagerly.

I am still embarrassed about running into him at the cafeteria. I hope he doesn't  chicken out and decide not to go on a date with me.

Miles rolls his eyes "Woah hold your horses Mel. You will have to ask Declan."

"Okay, your right. Let just hurry to my house. I have a date to get ready for and I need your help."
