Miles POV
I gather all my things for the weekend. I plan to stay the entire time at the hospital with Mel. We have always spent our birthdays together and if it was on the weekend that meant having a sleepover that includes staying in our Pjs until Sunday. I can't break tradition this year so you know I grabbed my TMNT pajamas. As I walk out I receive a text from Mel's mom
"My boss let me off work today for Mel's birthday. I plan on going to the hospital if you have any other plans I can stay with her tonight."
I quickly reply
"Sorry Mrs F. but I have a tradition to keep. I am on my way there now."
Mrs Fields responded quicker than most 40 year old moms.
"That is fine Miles I can grab a pizza and a little cake and we can all celebrate together. Don't forget it's the weekend I expect seeing your turtle PJs."
"Already got them Mrs F. Pizza and cake is a wonderful idea. Mel is going to love it."
I almost erase my text but I decide against it. Mel would be happy that we are celebrating. Mel is still with us. Why not celebrate her day.
I make it to the room and Mel's mom went all out when she said cake and pizza she was only telling me a part of her plan. There are gifts, balloons and she even invited some of the nurses to celebrate with us.
"Mrs F you went overboard with this party compared to my Ninja Turtle pajamas."
"Oh hush, only the best for my sweet Melanie." She smiles and I couldn't help but get a sense of relief that things are going to get better for all of us.
I reached into my backpack and grabbed a birthday card I picked out for Mel. I begin to sit it beside her bed when her mom interrupts me.
"Why don't you read the card in front of everyone."
"I don't think that is a good idea Mrs F. Mel and I usually pick cheesy embarrassing cards for each other." I try to explain
"Oh come on I want to hear it." She begs
Well she is either going to laugh or kick me out. What the heck I think everyone could use a good laugh.
So I began to read.
"I promise
To always be
By your side
Or under you
Or on top."
" Happy Birthday Melanie"
I promise to always be here no matter what.
