My name is  Melanie Fields and I am currently in a coma. I had a procedure to remove a brain tumor that didn't go according to plan.

Pilocytic astrocytomas are tumors that grow slowly in children and young adults. Surgical procedures are the best option on demolishing the tumor with chances of never returning.

Symptoms include:
* Headache
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Blurred vision
* Balance problems
* Personality or behavior changes
* Seizures
* Drowsiness or even coma

In 3rd grade I remember falling off the swing set at school. I always had a hard time with keeping  balanced  and I didn't think much of it. I was teased by others for being a klutz or saying I was living with two left feet. I have struggled with nausea, vomiting and migraines for as long as I can remember. The time in 9th grade when I went ice skating and not only busted my butt but I ended up with 5 stitches and a concussion. I have seen doctors and specialists and no one was able to pinpoint the cause. That was until the night of the winter formal. The night my heart was shattered in a million pieces and apparently my brain was being invaded. That night I broke a promise I intended to keep.

                        Two weeks earlier

"Miles! Come on we are going to be late for school." I yell as I am banging on his bedroom door. "Today is the first day back from Thanksgiving break. I really need to reconsider our friendship if you continue to sleep in causing me to be late."

Miles walks out with a towel wrapped around his hips and holding a towel that he is using to dry his dark hair.

"What's the matter Mel? Isn't there a  saying something along the lines of being fashionably late?"  Miles winks at me and tosses the towel he is holding over my head.

"Miles I swear to God if you do not get dressed I will" I pause because I didn't come up with a threat fast enough.

Miles replies in a flirtatious tone."You will what Mel? Walk or heaven forbid ride the bus to school? Besides, who says I am not dressed? What if this is exactly what I am wearing to school, I mean I just know the ladies will swoon all over me."

Miles is my best friend but I have to admit he is attractive. I mean he is tall dark and handsome. Miles dark hair and light blue eyes can make any women fall head over heels for him but I am not going to feed into his ego. Miles is aware that he is attractive and he portrays himself confidently and sometimes cocky.  That is why I very much enjoy poking fun at him when it is possible.

I stand there waiting for his bubble to burst. "Sorry Miles, Halloween was last month and I don't think a towel would be acceptable as a toga outfit."

"I can get a sheet if that would please you." Miles points behind him to his room that is a complete disaster.

"You do realize your mom is going to kill you if you don't clean your room ASAP." I cross my arms in a matter of fact way.

"I ain't afraid of my mom Mel." Miles laughs

"Oh, is that so? Does she know you haven't left for school yet? Oh Mrs. Whitmore." I begin to yell down the hallway when Miles pulls me into his room and covers my mouth before I could finish my sentence

"Alright. You win." Miles whispers in my ear before removing his hand from my mouth.

I start to walk back to the hallway before turning around to say " Good, now hurry up we can make it to school before 2nd period starts. I will be in your car waiting."

Miles just shakes his head before shutting the door, leaving me alone in the hallway.
