The heavy knock on the door
Jolted me out of my slumber
An eerie flicker from the burned down candle
A headache heavy as thunder
My sense of invincibility
Was about to be proven quite poor
When I realised next, in pure disbelief
That someone was there on the floor
I forced myself to stifle a scream
Hoping it was all a bad dream
The shape that I barely could see in the dark
It did not seem human at all
And just in that instance
As the door was knocked in
The ferocious creature roared
It could have been agony
It could have been pain
But one thing I tell you for sure
The attack was so brutal
So vicious and raw
Such violence, no man can endure
And still to this day
I shudder in awe
When I think about all those lost souls
