Chapter Five || First Heat

I woke up with a pounding headache.

Why is the place so hot all of a sudden?

As expected I was all alone inside of here so I flung out of the oversized jersey I had on and tied my hair into a high ponytail. Trying to stand to go into the bathroom that was a door away, I felt dizzy.

My eyes widened when I dawned on the reason why.

It's happening.

The heat.

How could I forget this?

I needed to think quickly and tried to remember everything my mother told me about the heat. During the first couple of hours, you meet your mate you go through heat. It's basically soaring pain you go through if you're away from your mate. The only thing to cure it was your mate's touch. Complete bullshit if you ask me. Another thing is if your mate has a high rank it's more pain. And I just had to be mated to the damn king.

I ran into the extended closet and opened the cabinets, pulling out all the cloth and towels I could find. Even in the extended bathroom cupboards, I tried to get as much as I can.

The scent of an unmated female attracts male wolves. It becomes a temptation that they cannot control. I need to hide my scent by stuffing the bottom of the doors with the cloth, leaving no space for air. My scent cannot spread.

I moaned in pain as another wave hit me. It felt like needles to my sides. Shaking my head I tried to concentrate on hiding away. I locked the front door as another wave hit me causing me to scream out softly. My eyes began to hurt as the heat spread.

Damn it.

Holding onto the walls for support, I made my way to the bathroom and filled it up with the coldest water it had to offer. While it filled, I took the towels and napkins, clogging the space below the door for safety measures.

Another wave hit me hard, this time much worse than the others. So painful for the tears to escape my eyes as I feel the pain increasing even more.

Still clothed in the vest and shorts I get into the bath, my vision blurred as I sink my head below the water. I smile as the pain decreases a little. My eyes widened as the pins reappear on my sides, I jolt above water about to scream but I covered my mouth in time. It felt like a thousand needles were being stabbed into my sides as the pain increased. I whimpered out, feeling hopeless against this heat.

You could do this Avira. You've fought warriors, hunters, rogues. You train every day and dammit you go through cramps and headaches every month.

I was pulled out of my thoughts when the bathroom door fell flat on the floor and my mate stepped through. His worried eyes softening and relaxing even he saw my aching body shivering in the heat. "My love," he whispers as he stepped into the bath, the sweatpants that hugged his hips soaking but neither of us cared. Kyston pulled me into his chest, wrapping his protective and muscular arms around me. His touch and scent soothe me and I felt at peace. The heat was still there, lurking in the shadows but I couldn't help but snuggle into his chest. My chest flutters as the king kissed my forehead.

My eyes widened and my back arched away from his chest as another wave hit me hard. I gripped the tub for support as the needles returned. I couldn't speak all of a sudden and my eyes began hurting once more.

Something is wrong.
