The oozlum is a calm and gentle giant that can be is seen strutting across all of Australia. They are truly a sight to see their feathers are the colours of the rainbow with ornate plumage. They have a similar appearance to an emu but obviously much taller and colourful.
These birds will only approach witches (Similar to the unicorn of Scotland) while staying clear of men. But the only exception to this the oozlum will only approach a wizard if they have an open mind and heart. It's believed that if you see 2 oozlum under a full moon you will have a long and happy marriage.
Their feathers are used in wand cores and potions. Even by itself can cure any poison except the poison of the male platypus and Australian Niffler. It's not knowing why it can cure anyone allocated by the poison of those animals.
But both scientists and magi zoologist has been working on a cure for both poisons.
The Coolum's vocals are very melodic. Similar to a lyrebird, they are capable to mimic sounds and voices. So if they hear someone sing they will mimic and sing along. That's why many people believe they are capable of speech.
