Emptiness

I put the last spoon full of the ice cream in my mouth and enjoy it with every cell in my body. Then I put the bowl on the table and lay back on the couch and release my hair from the stupid pony tail. As I lay back I try to think of nothing but my cute little pale blue socks which I was wearing.

I wake with the sound of my cellphone. I panic. I always panic when I’m suddenly awaken. I search desperately for my phone breathing heavily. It’s actually a hilarious sight if you’re not me.

“Hello?!” I say breathing heavily.

“Oh come on! Don’t tell me you were sleep?!” I hear Lana’s voice.

“Well, I was. Did you get my email?”

“Yup. I also got a pair of panties!” Lana says. Oh yeah. She is drunk.

“Lana are you drunk?”

“Yeah. I am. We’re all drunk!” She says, almost screaming.

“Who is there with you?” I ask worried. I mean maybe some stupid ass has gotten her drunk.

“I’m here at Fiona’s place with the girls. We’re all WASTED! Yooohoooo!!!” I can hear the others cheering with her.

“Fiona is getting a divorce and she just thought she should throw a party.” Lana continues. I can hear her famous drunk giggles.

“You should come. No..., NOOO! You must come! YOU HAVE TO COME!” Lana screams.

“I do have to come. Someone needs to drive you home.” I say and then hang up.

I dress as quickly as possible, and think about poor Fiona. She is getting a divorce AND throwing a party, everyone has their own way of handling issues. I never did like her husband actually. I don’t know for sure now to be honest. Maybe I just don’t like him now that I’ve found out they’re getting a divorce.

I put on my black skinny jeans and white loose shirt with my grey coat and put on the nearest sneakers which happens to be my black pair. I grab my cellphone, money, keys and lipstick and throw them all in to my bag. I run down the stairs and then try to find a taxi.

Fiona’s place isn’t so far from my place. But there was traffic. I look at the time, its 11 pm. I use my time to at least put some lipstick on that dead face of mine. It took about 45 minutes when I finally got to Fiona’s place. I hate traffic and I was worried about Lana. What if she did something crazy. But on the other hand it was Lana! She never did anything crazy at least not anymore. In fact this is the first time in years that I’d seen her getting drunk.

I go up to Fiona’s flat, and knock the door about 3 times to answer, I could hear the music. I wanted to knock again but then suddenly the door was opened and I saw Lana pulling my hand and dragging me in to the apartment. The party, well not exactly a party. It was more of a girl’s night. No men were allowed apparently. All I saw was women, some I knew from work. I could see Fiona talking to some other woman, which looked wasted. Lana hugged me very hard.

“I’ve missed you!” She said.

“Nah! You don’t. It’s just the alcohol talking” .I say trying to fit my sarcasm in my voice.

“Shut up!!!” she finishes hugging me and then steps back.

“I miss you too.” I say and give her a wink.

“I’m WASTED!” Lana shouted and then took another sip of the bottle of beer she was holding in her hand.

“I can see that.” I said. “Let’s get you home.” I shout so Lana could hear me out with all that loud music playing.
