Sorry y'all the schedule got all fucked up. I'll try to double update today to make up for missing Friday for this book.

Maya's POV:

Father called me to his office hours later. When I arrived, Misty gave me an "I won" type smirk and I resisted the urge to choke her. Instead I sat down in front of his desk and crossed my arms.

"What is it. I've gotta get back on a plane to who knows where for another meeting and more bullshit I have to do for you" I snipped. He paused and took a deep breath.

"Maya. Your cousin reported that you, killed his pet?" He asked, reading off something. I rolled my eyes.

"She tried to poison me. And she had intent to do it again since the first time she failed. So I solved the problem. No more murderous whores" I said absently. He sighed and leaned back.

"Maya. Killing pets is illegal. Punishing isn't. Why not just severely punish her? This goes on your record you know that right? It's been hell to cover up as well" He said. I smirked at the thought of Father trying to cover up my justified killing.

"So what. I've only done it once. And self defense, my life was in danger" I replied smugly. That lovely blood vessel that only ever appeared when he was really stressed decided to pay a visit.

"Enough. It's over and dealt with. Be more careful. In the meantime get a replacement pet for Summer. Searches yielded nothing and me and your Mother are working hard to find out what happened to her" He mumbled just loud enough for me to hear.

"Fine." I got up and left, walking to the elevator. Guess I'll pay the pet shop a visit.

I got to the parking garage and waited for them to bring my car to me. As per custom now, a guard drove me, while two more rode with me. I preferred a regular driver but Father had laid them all off for a while. For my protection.

We arrived where I wanted and I got out, slamming the door. The Owner came out to meet me. I brushed past him and let two dead faced guards pat him down while the third followed me inside. It was about 5pm and pretty much all of the people behind the bars were awake. I walked up and down the row, frowning. None of them were interesting. I started to go down the second row but something with the wall cells caught my eye. I approached one and reached my hand through, gripping the leash that was clipped to their collar and pulling hard to force them to look at me.

The boy resisted immediately, losing due to how underfed he must be. He had black hair with blonde highlights and tannish skin. Around his neck was a thick metal collar and around his mouth was some contraction. I snapped my fingers for them to bring me the shopkeeper and he was practically dropped in front of me in minutes.

"What's on his mouth? He can't talk?" I asked, pulling the leash a little tighter. His eyes were glaring daggers at me. I giggled and leveled my own glare, smirking. He tried speaking, but winced immediately after starting and shut up again. The shopkeeper forced a tight smile.

"Modified Muzzle. Very easy to take off and put on for the Owner. During our collections we picked up a lot of bad ones. Couldn't really take them back or put them down." He explained, gesturing to the boy. He got an actual growl in response. I stepped back a bit and let go of the leash, enabling him to scurry back onto his pillow in the corner. I left him and searched the second row. The shopkeeper scurried after me.

"I..Miss Redd are you looking for something specific?" He asked, pulling a clipboard off the wall and grabbing a pen. I frowned before answering. None of them were interesting.

"A girl. Preferably already broken in. Green eyes if possible" I said without even turning around. Third row here we go. One girl had dark skin similar to mine and deep brown eyes. She spared me a glance and lied down, turning her back to me. Too similar.
