Chicago Fire: Family Edition

Going Back To Work

    Today is Monday and I packed my bag for work. Matt is still asleep because it's only 4:30 am and I usually go in before him anyway. I left him a note and I headed in with Brett because Matt has to use my truck for a while until he gets the money to go buy a new truck. I said, "Thank you, Sylvie, for picking me up."
       Brett said, "No problem. I was going to pick you up anyway." I said, "You were." Brett said, "Yes." I said, "Okay." We got to the firehouse and I put my stuff in my locker but took my tablet, laptop, and chargers out of it to bring to my office because today is my first day as Lieutenant Halstead. I went to my office and found two presents. One from my brothers and one from the hospital.
      I opened my brothers presents first and it was a picture of all three of us, and I was in my firefighter gear, Jay was in his cop outfit and vest, and Will was in his scrubs. The second photo was when I saw Jay for the first time after he came home and Will knew he was coming home from the Army, and Jay tapped me on the shoulder while I was at the firehouse and Will was in the photo.
     Then I opened the one from the hospital and it was the knee brace and the scans and a note. The note said, "Dear Lieutenant Harley Halstead, we are glad that you made Lieutenant for firehouse 51. Stay safe, the whole hospital." I started to cry because it was so amazing. I put the photos of me and my brothers on my desk and the scans on my desk. My brace is on my bed. I didn't hear Kelly come in. I am on my laptop and didn't notice he was there.
      Kelly said, "Harley." I said, "Sorry I had to catch up on paperwork." Kelly said, "I have a present for you it's outside waiting for you to drive it." I said, "What?" We both went outside and Kelly pointed at the blue Chevy Camaro and said, "The whole fire house, police department, and the hospital bought you that for recovering from a serious injury and making Lieutenant. It's brand new to and barley has miles on it."
     Every detective from Hanks unit is here and everyone from the fire house is here. Matt didn't even help pay for it. Kelly handed me the keys. I said, "I am taking it for a drive." I drove my new Camaro around the block and pulled in a parking spot for the fire house.
       Dispatch said, "Truck 81, Squad 3, Truck 51, Battalion 25, and ambo 61 report to 1603 Washington St because there is a house on fire with people trapped." We all went to gear up and got in the trucks. We got there and Wallace said, "Halstead you take the lead on this one." I said, "We need to help people out before putting on the hoses. Squad 3 and truck 81 let's head in where the fire is and see if there is any victims stuck. Truck 51 stand by until I radio to get the hoses on. Let's go."
      Truck 81 and Squad 3 went in. I see women who's 6 months pregnant trapped. Kelly radioed, "Harley, the rest of the house is clear. All of Truck 81 and Squad 3 is out. What's your status?" I radioed, "I'm in the master bedroom and found where the fire is. It's in the master bathroom and a women is trapped what's 6 months pregnant with triplets I believe."
      I saw 2 fire extinguishers in the hallway and I went back to get them. I went back to the bedroom. I put the fire out and went in and got the women on her feet. I took my helmet and mask off because I can breathe better. I said, "What happened here ma'am?" She said, "I don't know. I was going to the bathroom and someone came in my bedroom and threw a match in after they put lighter fluid in the bathroom. I can't breathe." I radioed, "I need help now because she can't breathe."
     Brett came in running with oxygen. I said, "Thanks Brett." Brett and I helped the lady out and into the ambo. Brett grabbed my helmet and put it on while I was helping the lady out. I said, "Thanks for grabbing that." Brett said, "No problem." I realized who the lady was. She is one of my old enemies from high school. Her name is Kris Lancaster. I said to Matt, "I know who set the fire." Matt said, "Kris Lancaster stalker Michal Walker. Michael has been crazy about her since grade school. Since he couldn't have her no one could."
     I called Jay, "Hey Jay." Jay said, "Yes Harley." I said, "Can you run a name for me?" Jay said, "What's the name?" I said, "Michael Walker." Jay typed the name in his computer and said, "He just got out of prison for rape and killing 30 people." I said, "Do you remember my enemy Kris Lancaster?" Jay said, "Yes why." I said, "Michael tried to kill Kris today by setting her house on fire. Luckily my team got there and got the fire out. Kris is pregnant with triplets." Jay said, "Do you know Kris is married to a military officer?"
    I said, "No why." Jay said, "He was just contacted at work and he is not to happy what happened to his wife." I said, "Great. Who's her husband?" Jay said, "Shane Williams." I said, "That is one of my old best friends." I hung up the phone and I said, "Truck 81 we need to head to the hospital now." We beat Shane to the hospital by a few minutes. I see Shane in his uniform and I said, "Are you Shane Williams?"
       Shane said, "Yes Ma'am." I said, "There was a fire at your house today and my fire department responded to it. I was the one who saved your wife and your triplets. You don't remember me because Kris made you believe lies about me in junior high. My name is Harley Halstead."
      Shane said, "I am so sorry Harley, but I still don't remember you." I said, "Whatever. I saved my best friend's wife who doesn't remember me." I slapped him and then I left. My team blocked him so Shane wouldn't try to come after me. Then they followed me and we headed back to the station. Our shift isn't even half over of a week and I slapped my best friend since birth because of our parents. Shane came to the fire house to talk to me. Shane yelled, "Harley!"
      My whole team came out behind me even Wallace came with. I said, "What do you want Shane?" Shane said, "You were right back at the hospital. When you slapped me I started to remember memories of us as kids." I said, "I lost you the day you started dating my arch enemy Kris because you knew she called me all of those names, but you didn't believe me."
      Shane tried to walk towards me, but my team moved in front of me as a shield. Wallace said, "Get out of my fire house now!" Shane didn't listen to none of my team, so I had to text Jay to come with his team. Jay and his friend detectives got here. They got out and Jay said, "Shane your out numbered." Shane said, "Seriously Harley you can't fight your own battles. You had to call your big brother."
      I came out and said, "You seriously had to say that. I have lost my mom when I was 6. Then 2 years ago I just lost my father. Your saying I can fight my own battles. I had to watch both of my parents die in front of me." Erin came in behind Shane and tackled him to cuff him. Erin said, "Shane Williams you are under arrest for almost assaulting a firefighter." 
       Jay came and hugged me because he knows that I have been abused before by one of my crazy ex boyfriends. I got beaten pretty badly in that relationship and I almost died if it wasn't for Will. Everyone took me inside, but Erin who had to go back to the station to lock up Shane.
