The Raising

(1 week later)

(In the night, at the house, Niki starts crying)

(Elizabeth wakes up with irritation)

Elizabeth: Ugh.... I got her. (throws the blanket off and gets up)

(Once she gets to Niki, she picks her up and starts singing a lullaby)

(Niki eventually calms and then is eventually put back to sleep)

(Elizabeth then slowly puts her down and heads back to bed)

(5 Months later)

(During day, in the house next but in front of the couch, is Niki is in her playpen, playing with toys. While on the couch is Elizabeth, eating cookies)

Elizabeth: (chuckles, then gets up) I'll go and get some more cookies. (Walks over and boops Niki on the nose as she speaks) And I'm pretty sure you want your cookie.

(Niki laughs as she gets booped)

(Elizabeth chuckles and takes the remote that was on the nightstand next to her and changes the channel to something more kid appropriate then sets the remote down onto the nightstand closest to the playpen)

(Niki does a little baby scowl in anger and then looks at her mother with a sad look, but all Elizabeth does is leave the room)

(Niki gives a disgruntled look, but then has an idea. She looks back and slowly climbs up till she is able to stand. She then tries reaching for the remote. Struggling, she finally gets it and plops back down on her butt)

(She looks at it confusingly for a few seconds, then sets it down and presses a button. It changes back to the channel that Elizabeth was watching. Niki then gives a happy scowl that quickly catches Elizabeth's attention)

Elizabeth: (from a distance) Watcha doin in there?

(Niki looks in the direction Elizabeth's voice is heard in and then quickly puts the remote back in it's original place)

(Elizabeth comes back in with a full plate of cookies, and hands Niki a cookie as Niki reaches for it)

(Niki knaws at the cookie, only now realizing it was actually just a cookie teething ring. She then throws it. It bounces off the playpen wall and back into her lap. Niki has her arms crossed and then does another angry baby scowl)

(Elizabeth then takes a seat back on the couch, just realizing it was back on her channel)

Elizabeth: Huh, that's.... Odd.
I could of sworn I changed the channel...

(Off in the direction of the playpen, Niki is back on knawing on the cookie. She then turns her head very slowly while knawing on it with a blank stare at the same time, then turns her head back slowly as well)

(Elizabeth watches her do this with a very questionable look, then just turns her head back to the TV)

(The scene fades)
