A New Hope

Chapter 2

"Um, what is that?" Maya says standing behind Alaric and we both look at her

"Maya it's ok we're just gonna go to Principal Saltzman office and he'll explain everything," I say calmly

"Really?" he asks me concerned

"No call one of your vampire friends to compel her," I say and he nods looking relieved and walks away from us as we sit down and wait for him to come back

"What was that?" she asks confused after sitting in shock for nearly 5 minutes and I have no clue what to tell her but luckily MG walks in right as she asks and goes to stand in front of her.

"The sound was just a busted water pipe and then Dr. Saltzman-"

"Principal Saltzman" Alaric corrects

"My bad Principal Saltzman turned the water off and took care of everything," he said

"Wow crazy first day huh," she says

"Great you can head back to lunch," Alaric says and she turns and leaves before MG turns to me

"Ah don't even think about it," I say and he turns to Alaric who shakes his head

"Uh..uh hey if he trusts you so do I uh by the way I don't usually do this I'm not trying to take anyone's agency or anything you know so I gotta jet I got a study date with some--uh... someone it could be anybody really" he says and I immediately know Lizzie finally said yes and I'm happy for him Lizzie needs someone like MG

"Well thanks for getting here so quickly I appreciate it," Alaric says

"Anytime you'll always be my headmaster," he says and it gives me an opening

"So uh why aren't you the headmaster of that other school anymore?" I ask trying to figure out what's happened since I left I mean sure the school was attacked but that wasn't his fault if anything he's the reason it's safe now because he taught them not to depend on magic and their powers for everything

"It's a long story," he says and goes on to tell me about Malivore and the attack on the school

"It's not your fault I don't see why you quit," I say

"I put it to a vote and only had one vote to stay," he says and I'm honestly shocked how is that possible without me there's Rafael Josie Emma and Kaleb there's no way they would all vote against him it wouldn't make sense but I really can't question it

"That must suck  Uh, I'll be back once school lets out so we can clean up what's probably a dead troll," I say and he makes a face

"You're really not fazed by any of this, are you?" he asks and I shrug

"I-I mean, I-I just think that the story that you told me about the monsters and the scary black pit, just makes a lot of sense, I guess. Um, look, I'm really glad to hear that it stopped. I'm sorry that it's happening again." I say and he sighs

"It's not your fault. Now that I know your cover story is a lie, I-I'm assuming Tom and Kathleen aren't real," he says and I shake my head

"Okay. The school I used to work at, you'd be welcome there," he says and I laugh

"Oh, um Yeah, that sounds amazing. But I'm just passing through." I say because I can't stay here too many memories and I definitely can't go to the Salvatore school I can't even go back to New Orleans because wolves and Vampires aren't welcome there and I don't want Fraya to try and dig up my past.

"Hey, look, I, uh I don't really have access to that school's resources anymore, and I'm trying to give my daughters some space. But if these monster attacks are starting up again, I could use the backup. You know, I don't really have anyone else." Alaric says and I shake my head I feel bad for him but having to fight and train beside him and the others and not have them remember me would hurt too much
