A New Hope

Chapter 10

"Man I hate my hair sometimes" Maya whines getting up and I turn off the blow dryer and go back to my room and motion to the seat she just got out of

"Sit," I say and she sighs

"I know you're hairs like perfect and all but there's no way that brush will run through my curly hair without getting stuck," she says and I roll my eyes

"My dad gave it to me when I was a baby it's literally magic," I say and she laughs

"Magic isn't real Hope it's just sleight of hand and tricks to keep kids entertained at parties," she says and I gasp

"You forget I'm from New Orleans I believe in magic there are a lot of witches in the French Quarter," I say there's no point in hiding that I believe in it I mean most people I know in New Orleans do then again most people I know in New Orleans is supernatural but whatever 

"You seriously believe in magic I mean it's all an illusion," she says and I shake my head and run the brush through part of her hair

"Oh my god that brush is Magic! do the rest do the rest!" she yells and I laugh 

"I don't know if it's really magic Dad always said it was it's been in my family since forever but it de-tangles de-frizzes and de-puffs my hair even when I have gel and hairspray in it," I say 

"That's so cool I'm probably going to be here every morning," she says when I'm done and her curls are amazing after like 3 minutes and then I brush mine and she starts doing my makeup which she thankfully keeps pretty light before giving me an outfit to change into 

"Isn't that a bit short and uh low cut for church?" I ask when I see it

"Your wearing tights and it's not even that low," she says and I shrug and put it on and I felt like my chest was on display

"Ok yeah you definitely need a different dress," she says and pulls out a black dress (A/N: dress above)

"I think this is more funeral but I'll go with it," I say and she rolls her eyes

"Come on Mom and Ethan are outside," she says and drags me out of the house barely letting me get my purse and lock the front door on the way 

"Morning Sheriff Mac Ethan," I say climbing in the car and once again end up between Maya and Ethan 

"Morning girls you look nice," Sheriff Mac says

"Thanks," we say together and head to the church 

"So Hope are you coming over for lunch after church?" Sheriff asks 

"Um-" I start 

"Yes she is," Maya says and I look at her and then shrug

"Ok yeah sure," I say and she smiles at me through the rearview mirror. When we pull up to the church Maya immediately grabs one of my arms and Ethen the other and they pull me to sit between them and their mom sits on the other side of Maya. I kind of zoned out through the whole hour and a half if my dad is still watching over me he is probably either board out of his mind or yelling at me to keep my guard up.

"Kids this is Dr. Salvatore and her husband and Mayor Donovan the previous Sheriff," Sheriff Mac says and I force a smile and tighten my hold on Ethan's hand

"Are these your kids?" Elena asks with a smile

"Ethan and Maya are Hope is their friend from school," Sheriff Mac says and I smile 

"Nice to meet you," I say and shake their hands

"Are your parents here too?" Elena asks me

"Um no they died a few years ago a family friend is currently keeping an eye on me here in Mystic Falls but I live alone," I say 

"oh, I'm so sorry. My parents died when I was young too if you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask us orphans should stick together" she says and I nod

"Thank you, Dr. Salvatore, I really appreciate it," I say and walk away with Ethan and Maya 

"You ok?" E asks when we get away from her

"Yeah she just reminds me a bit too much of my mom," I say and they nod we mingle a little more and then we head to their house which was adorable 

"We're going to change," Maya says and drags me up to what I'm guessing is her room 

"I didn't bring clothes," I say 

"Your borrowing mine," she says and I groan and she tosses me some black tights and fuzzy slipper boots

"I'll be right back," she says and leaves the room 

"Is that Ethan's shirt?" I ask when she comes back in

"Yeah," she says and tosses it to me 

"Is this the shirt he was wearing?" I ask

"Yes," she says and I shake my head but pull it on

"You're so weird," I say and she laughs 

"Says the girl who put it on," she says and I roll my eyes but follow her out of the room 

"Hey footballs on," Ethan says from the couch and Maya gets on the recliner 

"You realize I have no clue how football works," I say and they both turn to me like I'm crazy 

"You're on the football team you lead us to victory against the Salvatore school," Maya says and I sit on the other side of the couch Ethans on

"Yeah and I was told to throw the ball run with the ball or catch the ball and run," I say and Ethan moves closer to me and starts explaining what's going on on the screen while I try to follow

"How are you so good at it if you don't know how to play and you don't understand it" Maya asks and I smile

"I'm just athletic my Uncle Kol always said I get my arm from him" I say 

"How many Aunts and Uncles do you have?" Ethan asks 

"My dad had a lot of siblings my Aunt Fraya's the oldest, but she wasn't raised with my dad and the others she was raised by their Aunt my dad and the others met her when I was a baby. She's the overprotective one, she married her wife Keelin a couple of years ago and they have a son Nik named after my dad. Then there's Finn I don't remember him he died when I was 3 and then there's Elijah he died with my dad in a freak accident 2 years ago. Dad's the next oldest he's their half-sibling actually their mother Esther had an affair and their father Michael hated him, he was abusive to all of them but more so my dad. Next is Kol he's almost always joking but he does have a vindictive side he Married my Aunt Devina when I was like 8. Rebekah is dad's baby sister he was always very protective of her they were always the closet. She married Uncle Marcel a year and a half ago he was dad's best friend and last, is Henrik he was attacked by a wild animal when he was 13 and killed" I say and they both look horrified 

"Sorry," he says and I sigh

"I only really knew mom. I mean I knew of my dad and his family I lived with them till I was 3, then something happened and I moved with mom. I lived with her until I was 7 then I met him for 2 weeks but it was dangerous for me to be around him he had a lot of enemies so I was sent to the Salvatore school. Then when I was 14 I got suspended and went home with mom, she got kidnapped dad swore to find her. Then I was kidnapped she protected me Dad and Principal Saltzman's daughter's mother Caroline came to save us. Sadly Mom's injuries were too bad and she died before we could make it to the hospital," I say and they look horrified I notice Sheriff Mac is listening also and Ethan changes the subject back to football until Sheriff calls us to lunch which is burgers and fries.
