~ Laila ~
The interschool competition went just fine. It was more fun and exciting than I ever expected. Even the invitees from the other schools could not deny the fact that the event was interesting and memorable. The senior debating team that I was in took the first position, the junior team took second. Our school took first also in the mathematics competition, the junior team took first in the quiz while the senior team took third. Our singing group took second and the dancing team took third.
It was really fun and it was an opportunity to meet other students and make new friends. Now I understand why the students were so eager for the event. I wished my aunt was here. I wished she had come and witnessed one of the most exciting time of my life in school because today I felt a little special from the attention I got after the debate.
After the programme had ended, students were leaving little by little with their school buses. I was talking with a girl that we both were competitive during the debate. She seem impressed with my performance and she was telling me how great I was when I noticed
a guy bumped into Jason as he walked past him. He was not a student of our school and he didn't look remorseful for what he did.Jason stopped and scowled at the guy. He said something quietly to him but the boy just laughed so did the three girls and other two boys that were with him. He said something to Jason and smirked. His friends laughed hysterically again and one of them pushed Jason on the chest gently with a smirk on his face.
"Please excuse me. I'll be back," I said to the girl talking to me. I approached Jason and the group that didn't know what they were getting into. There was no teacher around. Students had begun to gather and I could see the invitees student with their phones about to video what was going to happen which is not good at all. Not to the school image and not to Jason's.
By the time I got to where the scene was going on, Christian was already there. I have no idea where he came from and he was already standing in their middle. Jason's friends - Favour, Saheed, George and Obinna were already at Jason's back ready to fight for him. They looked at the small group in front of them like they are some piece of trash.
I know what those five could do. They can create the worst hell and scene there without thinking of the consequences.
But I don't think that was going to be a good idea. I can't let them ruin the school's image and reputation with theirs. We just finished having a wonderful and peaceful event and they can't just ruin all of that.
Those boys should better keep quiet. I thought to myself. From my peripheral view, I could see some of our school students shaking their heads at the fools opening their big mouths to insult Jason.
I looked at Jason. His face had a look that could kill him.
Yes, he looked like he would kill someone.
Christian was trying to stop the first guy from talking. But it was to no avail. He did even acknowledge his presence.
Then I saw Jason moved and that when I quickly get in between them. His friends shifted their gazes to me. They gave me the 'what the hell are you doing here? Don't meddle in this' look. But I just ignored them and looked away from them.
I needed to help stop whatever they were planning to do for the sake of themselves, and the dumb head that tried looking for trouble, but most especially for the image of the school.
"Jason, please don't mind them," I whispered to him. He was not looking at me because he was still glaring at the boys at his front, but I know he heard me.
Christian looked at me and I could see the relief that washed over his face as he now have a companion - someone who can help him with stopping the five musketeers behind him. I knew he was also afraid of what his best friend and his puppet can do.
