Laila POVI was still in the swimming area when Mathias came to meet me. I'm surprised he knew where to find me.
"Laila, what happens? You didn't come back to class." He said as he approach me. "Lail..."
He was cut short by my red and swollen eyes when I turn around to look at him. I didn't know why I cried so much. I hadn't cried as much as I did today since I was young.
"What is it? What did Jason do to you?" He asked standing face to face with me. There is concern written all over his cute face and also anger.
"He did nothing to me physically," I said shaking my head.
"What do you mean?"
I begin to cry again.
I need to stop crying.
I can't help but tell Mathias everything that happens. I told him about the kiss, how I feel and about the confrontation with Jason.
I expect him to laugh at me or tell me why I choose to have any feelings for someone like Jason. But instead, he pulls me closer and embraces me, soothing me.
It makes me cry again.
"It's fine." He said soothingly.
After a while, I calm down and we both sat down in comfortable silence. Mathias begin to tell me about all his failed relationships and his crushes when he was younger. I laugh at some of them and felt for him at some of the stories.
I'm so glad he did not judge me for having feelings for Jason. It's meant so much to me. He is such a true friend.
Jason POV
"I'm leaving," I said to my friends. They were watching God-knows-what on Saheed's phone. Christian looked up from the football game he was playing on his phone.
"So early?" Christian asked.
My friends also have the same questioning look on them.
"I am bored here," I answer their unasked question which was actually a half-truth.
"Okay," Christian said. He stood up and he picks up his bag. He also does not have anything to do in school. He is still in school because he is waiting for me.
"I'm still waiting. My mom is not at home." Obinna said.
"I'll wait too," Favour said. So did Saheed.
"I think I will leave now. My sister will be waiting for me to help with her assignment." George said.
George might be a hoodlum but he is damn intelligent. That is one of the things that attracted me to him making him my friend. He gesture for Saheed to give him his bag and he did.
We walk out of the class together. As we approach my car, someone called my name which made us stop turning around to see who it was.
It was Mathias.
What is the problem with this guy today?
He had stopped me twice today. I think I no longer intimidate them any more.
I heave a sigh and turn around to go.
"Wait up Johnson." He said.
Seriously. He called my surname. Only the teachers call me by my surname in school. So who the hell does he think he is?
As I turn back around, I feel something hit me so hard on the face making me stumble back.
"What the hell." I heard Christian say.
I touch my mouth and I felt a warm liquid on it. I look at my hand and what I saw shocked me
Blood.
My blood.
I don't bleed. I have never had an injury or any occurrence where I bleed.
As I look up, George already lurches at Mathias. He holds his shirt tightly around his neck. But Mathias didn't flatter. He still keeps staring at me as I recover from the punch he gave to me.
"That's for what you did to her. That's for hurting her." He barked.
George raises his hand to hit him but Christian quickly stopped him and Mathias pushes him away from him. He tried to get back at him but I stopped him. And he finally calms down but stares at him angrily.
Mathias smooths the wrinkles on his shirt and turns back to me.
"I won't hesitate to do much worst to you the next time you hurt her. So you better stay far away from her." He warned me and then walk away.
I let him go which make me earn a glare from George and a surprised and confused look from Christian.
"Why did you let him go? Who the hell does the dumb ass think he is? How dare him?" George yelled.
"Just let him be," I said to him calmly. I'm surprised at myself that I could be so calm after what just happened. Other times, he would have to lose an arm or break some bones.
"You can't just let the mother fucker leave. He got no damn right to lay his fucking hand on you. Who even gives him the right? That idiot had grown wings." George huffed pointing in the direction where Mathias just went to.
"Just forget it. Let him go for today." I said. Christian is staring at me with his eyes wide open.
"No no no no." George disagrees. "You are fucking too calm nowadays." I'm sure he will be wondering why I let Mathias go.
But he can't understand.
I give him a small smile and pat him gently on the shoulder.
"Your driver is waiting for you. See you on Monday." I said and walk in the direction where my driver is waiting for me and Christian.
We climb into the car and the old driver starts the car.
Author Note: wow I love this chapter! I love Mathias so much. He is a rare friend. And he seems courageous.
But Laila is still heartbroken. I know most of you hate Jason. The guy is so stupid.
Yeah, I know. He is so annoying. But I think he is still one of my favourite characters to write about.
