Jason POV
Not long after the drama with the Nurses, Laila aunt came in with a tall and broad shoulder man. There was concern and worry in their eyes.
I was quick to notice them as they came in because all eyes went up when they rush in and I can still recognize her aunt if not the man since I saw her for three days during the parents children trip we had last semester.
I quickly stand up to meet them as they approach the reception table.
"Good evening." I greeted.
They turn to look at me and they study me.
"You are Jason right?" The man asked.
"Yes."
"Where is Laila?" The woman asked.
"She is in room 40 upstairs. She is fine now but she still unconscious." I answered and they nodded.
They leave for the room but her husband turn back to say 'thanks' before going after his wife.
I went back to sit beside the little boy. His eyes was sad. I can tell he is afraid for his mother.
The little boy is alone in this world with his own problems.
"Where is your dad?" I asked him.
He look up at me with a sad eye and something like pain.
"He throws me and my mother out of the house because he want to marry another woman. He said he did not love us. And me and my mom, we have been staying with her friend who treat us badly. But mom says we have no choice. When she had given birth to my brother, she will find a good job and we will live well." He explained.
I don't know what to say. All my life I had been living in wealth. I don't have to worry about what I will eat, what I wear, how I could buy anything. I don't have any experience with someone so poor. The closest I was happen to be with Laila. But Laila happened to be from a lower middle class family.
I have never knew some people are in such pain. More pain than I was. I think I was the saddest person but that was because I never listened to other people story. What will I have done if my own father had threw me out and my mother is pregnant with no help, friends or money? I can never relate to this little boy's problem. He had to learn to be strong and wise at a very tender age. He is not suppose to be worrying about things like this.
"I'm sorry about that." I finally said quietly.
"Why are you sorry? You are not my wicked father. Mommy say he will reap what he sow someday." He said. "And I believe her."
I just nodded. He have a father who threw him and his mother out but he still happy that he have only his mother. And he is determined to live without him.
That is surprising.
"I will take care of my mommy and my little brother and I will work hard to become successful so I can make her proud just like I promised her." He said with a smile. The first true smile since I have seen him.
And I can't help but to smile too. Where I had everything on a platter of gold, someone was so determined to become like me despite its a long way and hard road.
His determination is amazing. He reminds me of Laila.
His stomach grumble and he look away shyly and I just smile.
"Do you want to follow me and get something to eat?" I asked.
"But you already paid for my mom delivery fee." He said.
