"Stop watching me, Nakia."Nakia smirked at her sister, "I'm not watching, I'm being observant." She rubbed her developing baby bump.
Khanysiwa eyed her sister, "There's nothing to be observant about, my dear sister."
Nakia held back a laugh, "He's gone soft."
"Who has?" Khanyiswa cleared her throat and played oblivious to the answer.
"N'Jadaka. That's what you call him, no?"
Khanyiswa rolled her eyes, "We're not having this conversation right now, Nakia."
"He's in love with you, it's scary. You'd think a man like that isn't capable of love."
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"I'm talking about how he's so possessive over you, you know he's looked over here four times in the last minute and you haven't moved from your spot. He adores you, you can see it in his face, especially when he holds you. You're his trophy—"
Khanyiswa snorted, "Oh, Nakia, stop it! Just because we sleep together doesn't mean we are together."
Nakia smiled, "You know what's funny? I think he adores you spiritually more than physically. Sure, physically is a bonus, you're beautiful. But you carry a certain light, Khanyiswa, that affects everyone you speak to, everyone you touch. He's bound to you. If it wasn't for you, he most likely would've left by now."
Well, she wasn't wrong. Khanyiswa looked at N'Jadaka, studying him in his suit and his dreads braided back. Courtesy of her of course. His gold fangs glistening in the light, complimenting his gold chain with the pendant of Africa on it.
She stared for a bit too long because she met his eyes and he sent her the 'I can't wait to rip that dress off look', biting his lip discreetly.
Khanyiswa felt heat rush to her face and she looked down at her feet like a silly schoolgirl.
This sent Nakia off in fits of laughter as Khanyiswa desperately tried to hide her face.
T'Challa and N'Jadaka came over eventually. T'Challa went immediately to his wife, wrapping his arms around her and resting his hand on her bump.
N'Jadaka came to stand next to Khanyiswa, giving her a little shove so she could acknowledge his presence. In doing this, he caused her drink to splash a little, so she screwed her face at him and he snorted at her.
"So when are you two planning to marry?" Nakia asked, batting her eyes innocently. Khanyiswa wanted to strangle her, she knew what Nakia was doing.
"Today isn't about us, it's about you and your beautiful unborn baby." Khanyiswa forced a smile.
Nakia raised an eyebrow, "Thank you dear sister. Excuse my curiosity, I just wanted to know when my little sister was tying the knot."
Khanyiswa choked on her drink, "Not anytime soon. Wouldn't want to spoil your spotlight."
"We shared everything in the past, Khanyiswa."
"This is one thing we're not going to share, Nakia." Khanyiswa squeezed her glass and before Nakia could say anything, it shattered in her hand, cutting her and spilling her drink everywhere.
N'Jadaka shook his head, "Excuse us, we're going to get her cleaned up."
He dragged her away.
—
N'Jadaka sat her on the bathroom counter and brought out a first aid kit.
He looked at her and began laughing.
"It's not funny!" She pushed him.
"You're right, it's fucking hilarious. What's wrong with you?"
"It was not me! Did you see what she was doing back there?! I hate it when she does that!"
N'Jadaka grabbed her hand and began taking the shards of glass out as she rambled and her sister.
"Sometimes she can be such a—Ow!" She winced.
N'Jadaka looked up at her, "Don't finish that sentence or they'll lock you up."
He looked up at her and put his hands on the counter.
"What?" She asked.
"Nothing."
"So why you looking at me like that?" She screwed her face.
"Because I wanna fuck." She rolled her eyes at that.
"N'Jadaka?"
"Hm?"
"Do you want kids?"
"No." His answer was short and blunt and silenced the hammering of Khanyiswa's heart against her chest.
She remained quiet after that, avoiding his eyes.
He lifted her head up to look at him, "Why? You somebody's baby mommy?"
Khanyiswa kisses her teeth and muttered, "I was trying to be yours."
N'Jadaka looked at her and laughed, "Don't bother yourself with that."
They both went quiet, trying to escape the awkwardness that came with the conversation.
N'Jadaka held her new bandaged hand and turned her around to face the mirror. She felt his chest against her back, his heart beating steadily.
Khanyiswa tried to see through the tears in her eyes, she quickly blinked them away but it was too late, he'd already noticed.
He pulled her closer, "You know we're not just fucking. You're mine. And I'm willing to do anything for you, Khanyiswa. You just wait."
