A week and a half passed by like a blur. The four of them enjoyed the ship services---living their lives on the edge. The other three were laughing, while Harper grimly smiled.
This is all going too smoothly---he knew at the back of his mind, something bad was going to happen.
This is too fucking good to be true.
"Are you alright?" Sonny asked, walking closer to Harper's distance. The taller boy was wearing the blue beanie Brooklyn bought for him, his gaze staring worriedly at him.
Brooklyn and Jack were dancing around the ship's ballroom hall, the pair giggling stupidly as they messed around with the steps.
"Yeah, just thinking."
"Want to get some fresh air?"
Harper nodded his head. The two of them went outside, walking over the rails of the deck---they glanced at the starry skies, appreciating the spectacular view.
"So, may I have access to your thoughts?"
Harper closed his eyes, sighing at the other's words. He unconsciously reached for his pack of cigarettes, his hand clutching inside his chest pockets but he found nothing.
He sighed once more.
He promised the other to try laying off smoking for good, Sonny muttering how it would be less harmful and healthier for him---he hasn't had one since they aboard the ship.
Sonny told him that whenever he felt like smoking, he could talk to the other about what he was feeling.
Sonny's question still lingered in the air and Harper glanced at the other.
"I wanted to be with you all," he said, his voice quiet and soft but the honesty and dedication he has was as loud as the seagulls in the air.
Sonny was baffled for a second, not sure how to reply. Harper chuckled, leaning his arms over the railings, "That's my dream."
"I want to be together with you all when all of you shitheads are reaching for your dreams."
Sonny gave him a warm smile, inching closer as he leaned at the railings as well, "That's beautiful, Harp."
He closed his eyes and breathed in and out. Nothing has happened yet and that was too good to be true.
But maybe, that was what it was all about.
They went through a lot of shit throughout their lives---too many that they would now wait for the worst of the worst to come.
But maybe... this time, it's different.
After everything they had dealt and suffered, finally, they reached a new point.
Harper felt a slim hand touched his back, another bigger hand on top of his head.
"What are you two gentlemen chatting over here?" Jack asked, ruffling his hair.
"Nothing, just admiring the view."
Harper felt Brooklyn intertwined their hands while Jack wrapped an arm over his shoulder, the tall one doing the same with Sonny.
He felt Jack pull them closer together, Brooklyn pointing at the bright city lights that was soon coming to view, "My, I'm fucking seeing New York City, everyone."
Harper smiled, Jack and Sonny grinning as well. They huddled even closer together, leaning their heads on top of the other.
"We made it, guys." Jack whispered, teary-eyed. "We fucking reached paradise."
Harper closed his eyes and breathed. Nothing wrong has happened.
Nothing bad, nothing scary, nothing nervewrecking. Absolute nothing.
They experienced absolutely nothing by the end and Harper could only beam and cry in relief and happiness.
It was a weird feeling but honestly, it was something Harper would not get tired of getting used to.
He felt the others pat his back, telling him to let it all out. He sobbed and cried throughout the rest of their cruise journey and he felt fulfilled and safe once he felt three pair of arms wrap around his body.
He heard them whisper soothing words around his ears and he smiled---he flashed his biggest grin, uncaring on how crooked or imperfect his teeth were.
Harper loved this calming feeling. And, he could not wait to spend the rest of his days with other three people---these three special others on his arms who made his wretched life worth something.
Harper kissed each one of them on the lips---the fleeting feeling being something he would never exchange for the world.
They all held hands together, their matching rings clashing as they all walked to a new, fresh beginning of their lives---in paradise.
