You panted intensity while walking back to the locker room. With your exhausting warm-up and playing full-court basketball games for thirty minutes straight, you didn't understand how some of your classmates weren't at all tired.

You found that it was best to breath in through your nose other than your mouth. Eventually, your nose would feel like it was bleeding, however, it was still better than having painful cramps to your side as a result of breathing through your mouth.

You took a warm shower washing away the exhaustion and everyday stress. Then quickly leave the shower with all your belongings, allowing the person next in line to shower. You change by your locker as usual.

As you put a fresh shirt on there was a chime on the speakers. This usually meant there was going to be an announcement, "Good luck to all who enlisted to participate in the school's quiz bowl, " Mr. Strange paused a bit then said, "Congratulations to the following students who were pre-chosen for their academic performance..., " he started saying names.

You wondered if the list would include you, last year you weren't chosen through your grades were still favorable.

As you finished dressing yourself, you heard it your name, "(Y/N) (L/N)." You squealed like a child, you always wanted to do the quiz bowl but never gathered the courage to sign up.

The bell rang and you quickly left the gym with your used gym clothes, speed walking to your locker which was on the opposite side of the school.

You pass (G/N) is the halls, she gave you a dirty look while looking you up and down then flicking her hair at you. You couldn't care less you were too happy over making the quiz bowl.

Once you reached your locker you quickly grab your Social Studies gear.

You arrive before the teacher was in the room. While sitting at your seat you had a huge smile sprawled across your face. (B/F/N) came over to you, kneeled down and gave you a big hug, "Good job Einstein, " she smiled. "We should celebrate, " her smile turning into a smirk. You gave her a confused glare, "By going to the mall, Jon should join us. We'll be like the three musketeers!" She giggled as the teacher walked into the classroom.

"Everyone should be sitting in their seats, " Mrs. McPherson said sternly. (B/F/N) quickly jolted to her seat, across the room.

The lesson about Egypt's rise and fall then began.

-------------------- After Class --------------------

You try to see if Damian was at his locker so you could ask him about the quiz bowl and how it worked since he probably participated last year, but he was nowhere to be seen.

For someone who has a locker right next to me, I don't see them very often.

"So, did you consider? Please (N/N)" she begged, following you around like a lost puppy. "Don't you have homework? You know how my mom feels about me going out during weekdays," you gave her a look. "Just ask her, if she says no then I'll let you be. We haven't gone shopping in like forever, she said rather dramatically. "Fine, I'll ask!" You smile.

When you arrive home your parents were sitting at the dining room table, they had mad expressions on their faces, but then again their resting faces looked similar to that of a mad person.

You go upstairs to put your bag down, then go back downstairs to wash your hands and eat the food your mom prepared for you. Warm-up and basketball in gym really gave you an appetite.

"Good job on honor roll," your dad says unenthusiastically, looking up from the newspaper he was reading. "What is this?" Your mom passed you an envelope.

You open the envelope, unfolding the paper within.

Dear Parent/Guardian of Pre-Chosen Quiz bowl contestant:

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you and your child for being selected to participate in Gotham Academy's Quiz Bowl.

Students work hard to be chosen. They must have a 3.9-grade point average or higher in order to qualify. Each participant will soon receive a packet their guardian must fill out which allows them to fully participate. This year the Quiz Bowl will be held at Saint Elias School for Girls.

Congratulations to you and your child. We encourage the continuation of this hard work to remain.

Sincerely,
Gotham Academy

"Did you sign up for that?" You dad ask dumbfoundedly. "What part of pre-chosen do you not understand?" You say rather moodily. Your dad just looked back down at his newspaper, ignoring what you'd said.

"Anyways could I go to the mall with (B/F/N) and Jon today?" You asked though you knew what the answer was going to be. You mom quickly gives you a glare, a bad glare. "You have homework and have to study! You don't have time to go to the mall," there it was the answer you anticipated.

"I made honor roll and got pre-chosen for the Quiz Bowl, surely I can take a break for a few hours. Besides, I finished all my homework at school and we have no upcoming tests," you reason. "When I was your age, there was no 'going to the mall' only studying," she explained.

There she went again, every conversation had to somehow end with her as the topic.

Your dad just simply ignored the whole conversation, not taking any bit of his attention off of his newspaper.

You rolled your eyes then washed your plate then headed upstairs to text (B/F/N) your answer.

It's a definite no.

I'll have my mom drive me over to convince her.

I love you so much (B/F/N).

I know, I know.

Soon enough you heard your parents answering the door. They shout for you and you leave the comfort of your own room, "What is it?" You ask acting dumb. They give you a glare, knowing exactly what your up to.

"Well, you see Mrs. (L/N) we'll be supervised. My mom was the one to come up with the idea, in fact, she'll be accompanying us during our shopping trip, making sure we're safe and sound, " (B/F/N) said very convincingly while gesturing to the car in the driveway.

Your mom gave you a sharp glare, "I suppose just this once, " she sounded unsure. You go upstairs to change, waiting until you arrived in your room to squeal.

You wear a black turtle neck and some jeans. You usually didn't wear jewelry but you were in a mood too, so you wore a lengthy gold-chained necklace with an emerald-like crystal. Your grandmother had made it for you when you were very young. Finally, you put on your jacket to keep out the bitter cold.

Your hair was simply left down, you knew (B/F/N) had a brush in their mom's car so you didn't bother.

Before you head downstairs you calm the huge smile on your face, you didn't want it to seem suspicious though she probably already knew this was set up.

The huge smile piercing at your face making your cheeks hurt a bit, finally mellowed out and you were able to walk downstairs to leave.

Your mom gives you another glare until (B/F/N) places her hand over your shoulder and walks you out to the car.

The door closes behind you and you ask, "So how'd you convince your mom? I thought she was working today, " you asked confused. "My mom doesn't know we're going out, " she smirked. "Then who's in the drivers seat?"

"Jonathan Kent... Duh, " her smirk widened.
