You so badly wished it was Friday, you were so incredibly curious and ready to do some research on Jon's allergy.
It's not that you didn't believe that it was an allergy, it was that the reaction was so strange. I don't think Jon even saw the necklace before the reaction.
By the time you took a shower, it would be late. So you decide to do the research after school the next day, besides tomorrow was the last day before winter break.
------------------ The Next Day ------------------
Although you told yourself you would wait until after school to get started in the research, you couldn't stop thinking of what you might find.
You were slightly worried, maybe what Jon had something really severe. Life-threatening even?
All these different scenarios played in your head throughout the day, thankfully there wasn't much to pay attention to in class anyway. Most classes just played movies, that were never finished, leaving the students who actually liked the movie on a cliffhanger.
Not to mention, that day went by so extremely slowly. Usually, the only class that went slow was first period, but today all the classes went slow.
Thankfully though, the school can't keep you forever and you were finally permitted to leave and start your two-week break.
You arrive home, climb up to your room, drop your bag and start your laptop up.
You weren't that hungry anyway. This was more important, one of your best friends could be ill and keeping it from you.
As your laptop turned on you grab a small notebook from your bookshelf and place it beside you, in case you needed to write notes.
The first few searches you did were about people being allergic to gemstones in general.
“Severe allergic reactions to gemstones.”
“Can a gemstone cause you a lot of pain?”
All answers to these questions and questions like them involved the person touching or being in direct contact with the stone, which Jon wasn't. So you tried other questions...
“Can being around a certain gemstone make you sick?”
“Can a gemstone make you sick?”
To these and other questions like these, the answers were different. This time it talked about magical and spiritual practices. You read through a lot of articles related to this but ultimately you found nothing. Absolutely nothing. It was like this allergy didn't even really exist.
You try one last set of questions, pertaining to the type of gemstone it was. Emerald.
"Can you be allergic to emeralds?"
But alas, the top result was an article talking about peanut allergies and a company named Emerald.
You get frustrated, after hours of not finding anything. You leave your room holding the necklace while walking to the kitchen. Food always helped you focus, maybe you could take a good look at the necklace after you ate.
You walk past the living where your dad was sitting on the couch, on his phone. He stared at you as you walked by.
Not knowing what to eat you grab an unopened bag of Cool Ranch Doritos. You ate vigorously as you frustratedly examined the necklace.
A lengthy gold chain and an emerald.
You didn't get it. Why did Jon have such a bad reaction to this necklace? Was it something in the gem? Were you going to have to break the gem to find it's secrets?
