Monday

You walk down your school's hallway, books in hand, feeling like a lamb being led to the slaughter. Mid-term week was upon Gotham Academy, making the hallways quieter and less crowded. It kinda looked like the halls from the horror movies filmed in schools, in a way.

At least this week is mostly half days.

On all the lockers were “inspirational” quotes. Some being “May the odds be ever in your favor” to a simple “Good luck.” What made you curious was a symbol on the bottom right-hand corner of yours, a jack-o-lantern looking silhouette.

Your first hour, English along with every other class except P.E had two parts to the test. Written responses and or essays and multiple choice.

When you arrived the classroom was surprisingly quiet, everyone was seated at their seat. After the bell rang its annoying sound the teacher started handing out the first part of your test, a 'short' story with questions and space to write an essay about the theme of the story.

For the most part, you only had to guess the answer to the questions a few times. The theme you'd picked for the story was somewhere along the lines of 'face your fears', but the last question was asking what the mood of the story was is what stumped you.

You knew this! And yet your brain literally could not formulate a proper sentence, so your answer turned out to be the equivalent of verbal vomit, just on paper.

It was what it was.

Math was next and you were exhilarated to say the absolute least. Today was the calculator portion, the math test had a calculator and non-calculator and both were multiple choice so it probably wouldn't be that hard.

You had always wished you were one of those child geniuses who was amazing at math, but you weren't. How you still managed to stay in A.P math was beyond you. However, you were pretty confident with the answers you were marking down on the paper.

Halfway done through the day.

Chemistry, it's truly amazing just how much information the noggin could hold. Units one through five all cramped in there. Luckily, memorizing things is one of the things your best at.

Today was multiple choice so it was made the test even easier.

Lastly, there was history. Thinking of the end of the day just made you more tired because you knew the highlight of your day would be studying even more at home.

Written response, but like Chemistry, History was just information you crammed into your brain.

The good thing about written responses is that if you don't know the direct answer you could literally write a whole essay to get your point across, in short, you could have multiple answers down and the teacher would have to mark it right.

Tuesday

Day two of exhaustion. Your day was lightened up a bit when you got to talk to Damian a bit, even walk down to English with him since that one of the classes you have together.

Like you, he looked really tired, apparently, you both stayed up super late studying.

Today was going to be slightly easier than the day before. English was just multiple-choice on grammar usage.

Math was a lot trickier though, today you weren't allowed to use calculators. Logarithms, vectors, and complex numbers; statistical analysis, probability, and binomials were all pains. Quite frankly the hour and a half you had to complete the test felt like thirty minutes, and towards the end, you ended up just guessing the answers. You were way too tired to care.

On your way to Chemistry, the hallways were again crowded, giving (G/N) and her goon (B/N) an opportunity to knock your binder out of your hands and kick it across the hallway. They even laughed afterward.

Assholes.

Chemistry was also easier today, just simple multiple-choice about atomic model and theory, isotopic abundance, significant digits, electron configuration, and everything else you'd learned in the past units.

History was the same way; multiple-choice, just about U.S history or the world from the 1870s to the 21st Century.

Wednesday

Today and Thursday were also half-days however, your first class would be your usual fifth-hour class.

That meant Biology was your first class today. Time to test your knowledge on biological systems, areas of biodiversity; evolution, genetic processes; the structure and function of animals and plants.

For this subject, you had to memorize everything but you were fine with it. You'd done it for so many years, you were used to it by now. You were just glad the week was almost over.

Animal Science and Agriculture was a subject that they required you to take in Gotham Academy, strangely. You had no idea why you needed to comprehend this information since all you learn about was beef and dairy cattle, sheep, and swine production. Along with the importance of healthy animals, appropriate nutrition, and the marketing of livestock.

But then again 80% of what you learned in school was a waste anyway... Or was it 98%?

Your favorite class even had a mid-term. P.E had the most useless tests ever! At least the sports portion was, why would you need to know every little thing about soccer unless you wanted to become a soccer player or coach? Badminton, handball, tennis, and two-player volleyball, to name a few were more games which rules you had to memorize. The only useful things they actually taught you was about fitness concepts and participation in activities to maintain and improve health-related fitness.

Lastly to finish off the day was Social Studies, you were currently learning about advanced world culture and geography along with some psychology and government.

Most high schools just had History to cover for Social Studies, but Gotham Academy was special, to say the least.

When you arrive home you study, as usual. When you finish you go on YouTube and look up effective ways to take notes, for a new approach to studying. All you got was "aesthetic notes" which looked amazing but must've taken hours to get perfect, and who has hours when you have to study that same day?

Ain't nobody got time for that!

Thursday

Today was just a full day of multiple-choice in Biology, Animal Science and Agriculture, P.E, and Social Studies so it went by pretty quick.

It still took you all the time given, an hour and a half to finish the test, but you did. And you were extremely relieved.

Friday would be a full day only because there were still some people who needed to finish tests. So all the anxiety was over... at least until you got the test results back.

That night you had a really good night's sleep, an amazing dream too. Though unfortunately, you didn't remember what the dream was about when you awoke.

Friday

Just an entire day of reading your book, "The Lady Killer Murders of 1961."

You did absolutely nothing but that. You were glad though, you didn't want to do anything else. It might've sounded dramatic but you were physically and mentally tired.

Everyone you passed in halls did too, they looked like walking zombies, bloodshot eyes with big bags underneath them, walking ever so slowly.

The highlight of your day was in English, Miss Pio handed out a packet disclosing information about your 'field trip.' Damian and you turn to each other from across the room and gave each other a look; the type of look you give your best friend when the teacher says you can work in partners.

This trip was going to be an interesting one.
