Sapphire angrily taps her foot on the branch, agitation tremoring through her body.
Ruby can be so fussy sometimes. I was lookin' forward to battling the Kanto dexholders an' all, but now he's gone and created a war between us, Sapphire thinks. I mean, all this over a blowdryer? All you really need is a good mornin' breeze to freshen yourself up. But he insists on stayin' in fancy hotels overnight and spendin' an hour a day on his looks. I kinda wish he would stay here for a couple of nights together. He would see the beauty of the forest.
Sapphire sits up, her sensitive ears pick up a rustling noise coming towards the base. She sits up and yells, "Yer finally back, ya big dummy! Why did it take ya so long to come ba-"
Emerald pokes his head through the leafy entrance. "Huh?"
Sapphire chokes on her words. "Emerald! Why are ya here? I thought you were gonna help Crystal out with the new daycare project!"
Emerald exhales, visibly annoyed. "Well, I was...until somebody set up a huge show in the middle of town. It's crazy. They have flashing lights and everything."
Sapphire's jaw drops. "Ya don't mean................WAIT! I thought he was gonna do the showdown in the forest! Why the middle of town?!" She drops from her branch, grabs Emerald by the shirt, and beelines for the door.
---
"Llllllladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the epic showdown between me, Ruby, and Blue, two world-renowned Dexholders! We will show off our beauty to the town, and you guys get to choose who wins! Now, cast your bets!" Ruby and Blue stand on a stage, lights flashing all around them. A huge crowd of people have gathered at the show, including the Kanto dexholders and Crystal.
Ruby grins, twirling the microphone in his hand. "And now, let the showdown begin!"
---
Sapphire races through the forest, dragging along a protesting Emerald. "Why would that idiot shove his petty problems into everybody's face? Not only that, the local authorities could be called for the public disturbance! Aaargh!"
Emerald sputters, leaves whipping his face. "And all this because of an easily replaceable blowdryer, correct?"
"Unfortunately, yes!!"
---
After running for a couple of minutes, Sapphire lurches to an abrupt stop.
Emerald looks up. "Sapphire, that's a cliff."
She looks back, eyebrows furrowed. "So?" Sapphire promptly grabs him by his shirt and throws (or yeets, whatever you prefer uwu) him up and over the cliff. She scales the cliff quickly, grabs Emerald again and continues running at full speed.
Emerald sighs.
---
"Feefee, use Hydro Pump!"
"Blasty, Hydro Cannon!"
Ruby and Blue are locked in an elegant battle, each trainer giving it their all. The pokemon instantly respond to their command, and shoot full power moves at eachother.
Somebody in the crowd comments on their power. "Unbelievable! And they're equally matched!"
"Wait!" Yellow exclaims. "Blasty is pushing Milotic back!" The hydro cannon tears through Milotic's attack. With a huge impact and spray, Milotic falls.
Ruby smiles, twirls around, and extends his hand towards the audience. "You really think Feefee will go down that easily? No matter the odds, we will win in a magnificent show, worthy of the crown! Feefee, recover!" Like magic, a bright light envelopes Feefee lifts off every speck of dust and dirt, leaving it shining. The crowd cheers.
