A quiet forest meant two things in the ninja world. Either it was too silent and an ambush was awaiting them or a battle had already taken place and the animals around the area had been scared off. Either way, it wasn't something that sat well on a shinobi's shoulders.
Sakura began to feel that weight on her shoulders as the four of them flashed through the forests of the land of fire and yet she could sense no ambush awaiting them nor any hints of battle nearby.
Instead, she narrowed it down to the two characters around her and her teammate. She didn't trust them. Especially this 'Sai' character. He seemed to smile at her every time she glanced at him as if he'd been expecting her to look over. The way he was acting made the pinkette shiver in uneasiness.
Then, there was Captain Yamato. He seemed alright for the most part but something about him seemed oddly dangerous and creepy. The young Jounin had no clue why they'd been assigned to their team when Naruto would be returning soon and she could bet her life that Kakashi was out there somewhere.
"Ra, focus." Sasuke muttered to her as they landed on a large tree branch for a moment before jumping off again.
Sakura gave the Uchiha a side glance "I am." She responded but the young male Jounin could tell she wasn't meaning the mission.
He, too, felt off about their new companions but being trained by someone like Kakashi meant going along with whatever the enemy was planning and countering their plan before they could strike.
As they rushed to the Sand Village, the Uchiha would activate his Sharingan every so often. It was quick enough to hide under the radar of sensor types, just in case, his new 'teammates' were such shinobi. The raven-haired male would use his few moments of the Sharingan to look for any signs off behavior from Yamato. Unfortunately, there was no way to observe Sai as he'd been placed at the back of the team as a long-range fighter. At least they knew that about him.
Yamato's hand suddenly went up and formed into a fist, signaling everyone to a halt. "We'll stop here for the night" He ordered.
Sasuke kept an emotionless facade but Sakura frowned at her new team captain "We're not tired. We should keep going" She muttered but kept her head down as a sign of respect.
Yamato raised a brow at this, he'd only seen this kind of behavior among the Anbu.
"You may not be tired but we are." Yamato stated, pointing to Sai and himself. "Besides, it gives us a chance to get to know each other since we'll be in a team from now on" He awkwardly smiled.
Sakura didn't know what to make of him but Sasuke came to the conclusion that he was an idiot, albeit a possibly strong one.
"Very well" Sasuke said before taking off his backpack "I'll take first watch" He said with an aura of finality before jumping into a nearby tree.
Sakura knew he only wanted to do it so he could spy on the newcomers a bit more...and also because he wasn't the most social type.
Yamato cleared his throat awkwardly while Sai simply stood, unmoving, with a clearly fake smile on his face.
Sakura sighed as she took off her backpack and moved to get firewood from the surrounding area. Upon seeing this, Yamato quickly worked to get a small fireplace set up.
Sasuke watched the three, especially Sai who simply stood aside and watched as they worked.
'Root...' Sasuke thought bitterly, his mind going toward Danzo and his brother. The Uchiha kept watch but his thoughts kept bringing up memories of his brother and when they reunited.
