The Evolved

Chapter 4

"EVERYBODY UP!" I yelled at the top of my voice. "Why, what's happening?" asked Alex. I pointed out towards the smudge that was getting closer than before. He knew exactly what I meant and he ran to help the others clear the camp. The Chasers got closer and were searching the building on the other side of the road. I could see them searching but obviously they didn't find us. They then turned and as quick as they came, burst into our building.

One Chaser came up the stairs. He had a pistol in on hand and a dagger in the other. His wolf face and claws were pretty scary. His red eyes scanned the area, searching for us. I motioned to Barney to take him out. Almost immediately he faded into the background. I could see his footsteps appear in the dust on the ground. Suddenly the Chaser was flipped backwards and landed on his spine. His neck jerked to the side and his nose bled. Barney reappeared, he had a huge grin on his face.

More Chasers came almost immediately. I was the first to stand and run at one Chaser, setting myself on fire as I went. At contact the Chaser burst into flames, howling as he burnt to death. I looked over at Alex, he had hypnotised a Chaser and made it walk completely of the edge of the building. Beth and her 7 other Beths were punching and kicking a Chaser that they had pushed to the ground. Ryan had picked up at least 12 Chasers at once and flung them off the building. I turned to face another Chaser, bigger than the first one. He slashed at my face, leaving three massive scars across my cheek. I stumbled backwards and the Chaser clenched it's fist to punch me. But before he could, Alex had lifted it with his mind and rammed it into the wall.

"Is that all of them?" I thought in my head. It was. My scars had healed quickly (because of my regenerative ability), but other's had not. Alex had a wound on his upper leg, preventing him from walking, Kate wasn't really wounded, she had sort of hidden through the entire battle. Beth had a black eye, Dani had lost her voice and Ryan had a broken wrist. We had lost Conrad. I flew with him in my arms to somewhere he could be buried. I found a forest near a river and buried him there. The others came later to mourn our loss...
