The next morning we set off again. We travelled about 3km before Mark started to complain about his feet hurting. "I only have little legs!" He complained. "Well we'll stop in a minute," I answered back. We stopped for a rest and everyone was slumped on the ground or against a rock. It was only then I noticed the gaping wound in the side of Beth's leg. I ran over and said "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? YOU SAID YOU WERE OK! ARE YOU STILL ABLE TO WALK?!" I babbled on like this for a few moments and then I stopped. I looked up into her dark eyes. Her skin had turned white, like she had seen a ghost.
I signalled to Ryan to get the first-aid kit. He came back moments later with a few bandages and plasters. "I'm fine," insisted Beth. "YOU ARE NOT FINE! THERE'S A MASSIVE WOUND ALL THE WAY DOWN YOUR LEG!!" I exclaimed. That shut her up right away.
Later, after Beth had been bandaged up, I went to see her in her tent. "I'm sorry I yelled at you earlier" I said softly. Beth just turned around and ignored me. "Oh come on! I saved your life, you should be grateful." She turned to look me right in the eye. I brushed my fringe out of the way and blushed. "It's my responsibility to protect you and the rest of the group," I said quietly. "I know..." She said back. "So why not tell me that you were hurt?" I asked. "I don't know, I thought you would be angry for not telling you... Which you are." He answered. "Look I'm not angry, I just.... No, doesn't matter!" I stuttered out.
I left her tent quickly after that, brushing passed Dani as I went. "Keep an eye on her," I said to her as I walked past. Dani nodded and continued walking.
Alex and I went searching for a new place to stay for the night. "Do you like her, Beth?" I asked out of nowhere. "What do you mean... Like, love?" "Ya..." I said back. "Maybe just a little bit," he answered "but not that much." The rest of the search was in silence. After what we thought was an hour, we found suitable ground. I told Alex to stay put while I fly back to the others.
I whipped out my black, angel-like wings and jumped 5 feet into the air. When I got to the others I told them where It was and shot back into the air. It was only after I was in the air I remembered Beth. She wouldn't be able to walk.
I shot back down to Beth's tent and told the others to go on ahead. "Beth," I called out, "we're leaving." "But I can't walk," she answered back almost immediately. "I'll have to carry you..." I said. She slowly cam out of the tent. She had always been amazed by my wings. She had said they were beautiful.
"Are you ready?" I asked. "Ready as I'll ever be!" I picked her up and soared into the air.
