It took me a few days to heal completely. The feathers in my wings had all been burnt off. When they grew back they were darker than before. Alex had said it made me look like 'an angel of darkness' and I liked that.
We decided to stay in the hospital for longer, because of the beds and shelter. Each day two of us went out to search for food. Up until now, I wasn't allowed to go. But now thAt I was fully healed it was almost essential that I did.
I was paired with Beth. So after it had bright in the morning, we headed off. We travelled North, towards a town that another pair had spotted. There was a lot of shops and stores around the town.
We walked up the silent street quietly. "I don't like it here," whispered Beth, "It feels like we're being watched." I nodded in agreement. We moved towards a grocery store at the top of the street. As we got closer I took a run at the store, smashing through the side window. I stood up and brushed myself off. Beth walked around the store, filling her bag with supplies.
As we walked back up the town I turned to look at Beth but noticed something behind her. The sign above the store read "Guns and Sons". "Look," I said to Beth, pointing at the store. I walked up to the window and peered through. The store was filled with many guns that I didn't know the name of. I did the same thing with the window and walked around the store, filling my bag with small hand-guns and ammo.
Just as I stepped back out of the broken window there was a loud bang. I turned to Beth and she said exactly what I was thinking, "CHASERS!" We ran up the street not looking back to see if we were correct. I spread my wings and picked up Beth. Up and away I said to myself and I surged up into the air...
