You kept him on your lap, your hand stroking his hair and his chest. You felt Finn brush against you as his arm went around you.
"I killed him," you said. "His heart isn't beating anymore."
"You did what was right," Finn whispered. "Even he knew that."
"How is what was right the same thing as what is wrong?" You scoffed in disgust. "The Force wills me to kill my own husband to save the galaxy. What kind of command is that?"
His hand was on your head now, turning you towards him, and you accepted the nudge, pressing your face into the side of his neck and letting out a gut-wrenching sob.
"Shhh..." His eyes shut tight. "It's okay."
"No," you wailed.
Yes, it was true that Finn hated Kylo Ren even to this moment. He didn't have an ounce of sadness in his heart from this loss. But he cared for you so deeply that he had no choice but to hold onto you and say to Rey, "Is there anything we can do?"
She stared at his body; the body of her relative and her greatest enemy. "I-I haven't the slightest idea. I don't know."
You sobbed, and Rey watched as your shoulders shook violently with the sound. Pained, she shook her head.
"But we have to try something," she said.
"Like what?" Finn asked.
"Anything. We can't let him die like this."
"Please," you whispered, stopping to suck in quick breaths as you cried. "Please, Rey. You have - you have to do something. There has to be something."
Rey waited for a long, slow minute - and then she closed her eyes.
She went back to her place of peace; where she had been going for the last few days. When she needed guidance, she knew where to find it.
The plants were lush and green. The sunlight was rich and golden. Everything was bright and cheerful, and General Organa was standing in the midst of it, more beautiful than all of it.
"Leia," Rey said, "I need you."
"Of course." She turned, her eyebrows shooting up. "Of course you need me. Everyone always needs me."
She walked through the tall grass until she stood in front of Rey. She kept her hands folded in front of her. No matter what title she had, Leia always looked more and more like a princess. Even in death.
Rey spoke through tears, "As cliche as it sounds, you're my only hope."
Leia smiled. "I've always loved that line."
She reached for her hands and took them. "I found out where I come from. I found out who my family is."
"Are you telling me you still didn't know that it was us?" Leia asked.
"I think it just seemed unreal," Rey said.Tears leaked from her eyes. "I miss you so terribly."
"I know you do. But I am right here. I will be with you... always. Now child, what do you need me for?"
"It's your son," she said. "There has to be a way to bring him back. He's dead, or he's very weak and dying. But... but he can't die. He has a child on the way. And his wife-"
Leia nodded, deep in thought. "Will it to be so, Rey."
"Will it...?"
Her hands squeezed Rey's fingers. "Will him to be healed."
Her eyebrows furrowed. "That's it? I will it to be? That seems much too simple."
"No one can command the Force to do as they please. No one has that kind of power. Yes, you can meditate with it or move rocks. But whatever you will is up to the Force to allow or not allow."
Rey nodded. "Then this has been willed before, surely."
"Yes. Years and years ago, a Sith named Darth Maul used it to keep himself alive after Ben Kenobi, Luke's master, killed him. He was supposed to be dead and he willed himself to not be. The Force allowed it."
Leia placed her hands on Rey's arms. She smiled again. "Save my son."
"___ will save him, Leia. I promise you."
"She already has." Leia pulled Rey down for an embrace. Rey found herself clinging to her. The general turned her lips towards Rey's ear and whispered, "Bring him back."

Rey opened her eyes and blinked. She looked down at his body and placed her hand on his chest. It seemed ridiculous to do this; it seemed so simple. No trading a life for a life, no sacrifices necessary. Just a plea to life and death themselves.
"W-What are you doing?" you whispered to her.
Rey inhaled deeply, and shut her eyes.
You fell silent, watching her face. Her eyebrows pulled together in concentration, her tongue poked at the inside of her cheeks. She breathed, dropped her head, and breathed again.
"I can feel him," she said. "He isn't dead. He's waiting."
"Waiting?" you asked, pulling away from Finn. "Rey, you can feel him? Rey?"

She was in a room of mirrors again. She saw her reflection in them. How did she get back to this place? This dark place on the island... it was colder than she remembered.
She raised her hand to the mirror. She touched it.
"Show me my family," she whispered. And this time, she was not afraid. She smiled, patiently waiting for the faces she knew would show up. "Please."
They all appeared, one by one. Her found family; Poe, Rose, Chewie, BB-8, C3PO, R2D2... Finn. And her biological family; Luke, Leia, Han. Ben. You. A bundle in your arms. Anakin Skywalker. Padme Amidala.
They smiled, all but you and Ben.
Rey walked up to him. She touched the glass again, and where she did, he repeated her action. Like a reflection of herself; the balance of darkness in comparison to her light.
Ben, she whispered.

"Rey? Rey?" You were leaning over Kylo, grabbing Rey's arms. Finn pried you off of her. "Rey, what is it? Is he okay? What is happening?"
"He's cold, but he is full of life." Her hand made a fist in his shirt. "He's alive enough to at least try to do something."
You fell against Finn and sighed out in relief. "Where - where can we take him?"
"We'll get him on the Falcon," Finn said to you reassuringly, "and we'll take him home with us."
You stopped, placing a hand on his arm. "No, Finn."
Finn ignored you. "Poe!" he exclaimed. "We need some help over here."
"Finn, please-"
They both supported either side of Kylo, picking him up off of your lap and carrying him towards the Falcon. You reached, your other hand falling limp on your knees as you stay sitting. Rey bent down, cupped your elbow in her hand, and helped you stand up. You did so weakly.
"The hardest part is over," she said, looking to the pile of dust that the Emperor became.
You wished that was true, but Kylo had never felt so out of reach before.
