Back on base, Kylo was placed in the medical wing and hooked up to several machines. You remained by his side, too afraid of what someone would do to him if you left. They hated him even now, and you knew they had fought against Rey's commands to give him a chance.
"They think it's a waste," you said, standing at his bedside. Finn was across the room, reading his vitals. He didn't look at you, so you kept going. "They're wasting their supplies on him and they don't want to. I don't blame them."
"It's not a waste and you know it." He sounded patient. "Besides, the war is over. People can move on with their lives. We don't need all of this anymore."
You leaned over Kylo. He had hair going across his pale forehead, so you swiped it away. You started to comb through it with your fingers gently. His hair looked like it had lost its boldness of dark color.
"He looks dead," you whispered sadly.
Finn's footsteps were soft. You felt him stand next to you.
"You should go to your room and get some rest. I'll watch over him for a while."
"What about when you get tired?" you asked. Your eyes never left Kylo.
"I'll call Poe in. He offered to take a few shifts to stand here and keep an eye on him."
You scoffed. "You both hate him just as much as anyone else here. You shouldn't have to sit here and watch over him. I know neither of you want to."
"If you really think that, then you're stupid," he said. You turned your head to face him. "Poe cares about you and so do I. I care about you so... so much. In case you haven't realized, the things we do for him, we are really doing for you."
You stared.
His eyes dropped to the floor, and he cleared his throat. "I should go get Poe and remind him that I need him to sit in here later." He turned, and you said-
"Finn."
He paused.
You walked behind him and wrapped your arms around his middle, pressing your face into the curve of his back, where he was slumped forward with sadness. You shut your eyes tight for a brief moment.
"Thank you," you whispered.
His palms lay on your arms that wrapped around him. He turned his head slightly to the right. "You are welcome."
You moved your head, putting your chin on his shoulder. "Finn-"
"I know what you are going to tell me," he said, sighing. "You can't stay."
"Yeah," you said. "They'll arrest him the moment he wakes up. They'll throw him in prison or just kill him straight away. I can't risk his life to stay here."
You let go of him and he turned around.
"No," he said. "Don't let me go just yet. Please don't."
This time, he met you halfway. You fell into your embrace with him, shutting your eyes and wrapping your arms around his midsection and holding on tight.
"You mean so much to me, my friend," you breathed.
He exhaled through his nose. "I love you." His voice broke at the end.
"I love you too. I pray we see one another again, but I understand if it is too much of a risk to find me one day."
"I would do anything to get back to you," he said. "Anything at all for you - my sister."

Rey came back with Finn and Poe. She explained this idea she had - this idea she felt. She would give Kylo some of her life, bit by bit, until his strength was built up and his energy was restored.
