Esmè woke in a random bed. She didn't recognise it. All she remembered was getting drunk with Sam last night. She sat up in the bed.
Esmè looked up as Sam walked in. "Morning. Better get a move on I think. I'll put the kettle on."
"Shit."
****
Esmè was trying to find her clothes when Sam came back in. "From what I remember, you were a coffee girl."
"You're a prick. You took advantage of me last night. I was drunk," Esmè said.
Sam smirked. "I'll see you at work."
Esmè rolled her eyes. "Egotistical wanker," she mumbled. She knew that something had to have happened between her and Sam. But she didn't know what.
"I heard that."
"You were meant to!"
Sam walked back into the room. He smirked. "Would you like a lift to work?" He asked.
Esmè stayed quiet. But she nodded. "Yeah," she mumbled.

Sam arrived at the ED. He looked at Esmè. "Are you okay?" He asked.
Esmè nodded. "Yeah. You can leave me alone now. And don't think I'll be ending up in your bed again."
Sam smirked. He realised that Esmè didn't remember anything about the night before and he felt bad for what he was going to do. "But last night was amazing. You said it yourself."
"I don't remember."
Sam winked. "I do."
Esmè walked off. She knew that she was being too harsh on Sam. But she couldn't help it. She hated the way he had dumped her.
****
Esmè walked into the staff room. She was running late. She saw Sam and her mum as well as everyone else in there. "The trust has decided that further cuts will be made to the NHS. They have asked that all consultants reinterview for their jobs."
Esmè was completely disheveled and Connie noticed. She frowned knowing that her daughter was late because of her spending the night with someone.
****
Esmè barged into the office. "You'd be really dumb to fire Elle or Dylan or my mum. They're all amazing doctors and god knows the NHS needs that at the minute."
"Thank you Dr Beauchamp but what the NHS needs right now is money and we both that that's not going to happen under any government anytime soon."
Esmè frowned. "Why are you acting weird?" She asked. She saw the look on his face. "After last night, you're being weird."
Sam stood up and closed the door. He looked at Esmè. "I get the impression you don't remember much about last night."
"Not true."
Sam smirked. "I loved what you did with the whipped cream."
Esmè paled. "I don't even like whipped cream."
Sam nodded. "Last night was amazing. But that was then this is now. We're at work. I have a job to do and so do you and I can see a row of cubicles with some very sick patients. Now go and make them better."
****
Sam was walking to his car when he saw Esmè. He called her name. "I just thought it you should know. I've got a very awkward meeting tomorrow with the chair about why one of my doctors attacked a patient with a fire extinguisher and I'm not entirely sure how much I can protect you."
Esmè scoffed. "Protect me? I've not asked you to protect me."
"Esmè."
Esmè shook her head. "Let's get one thing clear shall we. Last night you slept with a junior doctor. Me. Then you tell me my job is safe cause I'm cheap. You give staff moral a kick in the balls and then say it's your job. Last night wasn't even that good. I've had better and bigger."
"Esmè. Nothing happened. It nearly happened. We got pretty close. But truthfully we both had a bit too much to drink. I stayed on the sofa. You did moan in your sleep though."
Esmè looked down at the ground. She noticed the ED walking towards the pub. Sam sighed. "Look, I'm sorry. I don't want to lose any of you. But it's either I lose one consultant, two junior doctors or three registrars. I went with the easiest option."
The staff walked off leaving Esmè and Sam alone. "You really had no choice?" She asked.
"None."
"They'll come round. They're pretty forgiving."
Sam smirked. He took a step closer to Esmè. "I do wish something did happen."
Esmè said nothing. She walked off and sighed. She knew she was too harsh on Sam. But she couldn't help it. She couldn't forgive how he dumped her.
But could she even try to forgive and forget?
