story time before the one-shot:
i have this childhood friend (*cough* crush *cough*) and we'll call him ashen. i was playing with some kids outside earlier and he joined us, that's when i discovered something i shouldn't have.

it was supposed to be another normal day for ama-chan.
when he suddenly made a shocking discovery.
he found his soulmate, which was kuroneko.
amatsuki and 96neko are childhood bestfriends. amatsuki was supposed to be babysitting his three cousins who are still kids, being only 7, 6 and 4 year olds, because it was their parents' anniversary and they wanted to go on a date alone.
kuroneko, who was bored and wanted to hang out with amatsuki decided that she'll just join him since he can't hang out with her with just the two of them.
the two were playing with the kids on amatsuki's house, both are wearing sweaters.
amatsuki was enjoying playing with his little cousin, when he noticed kuroneko's sleeve was pulled down a little.
he took a secret peek of her tattoo, thinking he can maybe help her find her soulmate, when he noticed she has the same ♡ tattoo as his, but hers was upside-down, maybe it's a soulmate thing that happens to differentiate the two soulmates from each other? they are still the exact same tattoo though.
amatsuki blushed at the thought of neko being his soulmate. he doesn't like her romantically (yet) since he's always the first one to fall in love in a friendship and he didn't want to ruin his friendship with neko just because he fell in love with her. so he never thought of seeing her in the romantic way.
kuroneko seemed clueless though. amatsuki was sure she has never seen his tattoo despite them being bestfriends for more than half of their lives, or maybe she saw but didn't paid attention to it that much.
neko asked him if he was okay since he's been spacing out and turning red for the past 2 minutes, amatsuki just shook his head and told her he was fine. she seemed like she didn't believe him, but nodded her head anyways and went back to playing with the kids.

the day shortly ended with the kids and both amatsuki and kuroneko tired from playing. their parents picked the kids up, and kuroneko left amatsuki's house too after a while.
amatsuki laid in bed, still bothered on how he should tell kuroneko they're soulmates.
kuroneko can't be pleased with typical presents for girls. so flowers, chocolates, letters and all that shit would definitely be fails.
amatsuki decided that he would just tell her at work tomorrow, privately of course, and went to sleep, the thought of them being soulmates never left his mind.
tomorrow came, both amatsuki and kuroneko were present at work. but amatsuki never got the chance to privately talk to neko, since their workplace is packed with other utaites, loud utaites, and ones who are close with neko are well.
amatsuki also wore a shirt with short sleeves today, hoping that kuroneko will notice their same tattoos and hopefully that will make his confession easier.
amatsuki also noticed that someone was staring intensely at him, but he can't point fingers on whoever, because he's not sure who it is.
it's not creeping him out, he's sure it's just one of his workmate utaites who are also his close friends. maybe they have something to talk about? a plan maybe? a prank? he doesn't know. but he hopes he'd figure out what it is by the end of the day, he doesn't want his sleep to be disturbed by something like this.

finally, it was the end of the day when amatsuki finally found the chance to talk to kuroneko.
all of their workmates went home except for the two- three of them. kashitarou itou didn't go home yet either. amatsuki just let him be, since his business now is kuroneko, his soulmate.
amatsuki waited for kuroneko to leave her office. she was taking a while fixing her things and while he was waiting, he noticed kashitarou approaching him.
amatsuki tilted his head in confusion, kashitarou grinned at him and spoke.
"amatsuki-kun, we're soulmates!!" kashitarou exclaimed as he showed his tattoo on his wrist.
the exact same tattoo.
amatsuki was shocked, kuroneko is his soulmate, how did this happen?
to be honest, amatsuki liked kashitarou in the romantic way, but he thought- he knows kuroneko was his soulmate.
mouth agaped, amatsuki remembered one little difference between his and neko's tattoo.
'ah, so that's why her tattoo was upside-down.'
