When I woke up to my blaring alarm this morning, I had only two things on my mind: I haven't chosen a dress for my upcoming prom night and Asher Clyde, yes, my boyfriend. A smile crept its way to my lips, just the thought of him made my morning much better.

Aww... that's because you're head over heels in love with him.

Umm..no. I'm not.

Yeah, right. Keep telling that to yourself.

Huh, I scoffed. This morning can't get any better, it's already 8.30 a.m and I'm still in my PJ's talking to myself like a crazy bitch. Next stop, the nearest asylum. Way to go, Hazel. I wonder they will serve hamburgers and fries for supper. What? Food is bae and hamburger is my SOULMATE. I just can't live without them. And the Hailey's dine-in serves the best hamburgers across the whole city of LA. They have the freshest buns and the patties are so juicy and...

HONK.........

Holy finger chips. I ran to my window and peeked down. Trista stood there, beside her Audi R8 Spyder with an 'are you kidding me look'. Oh, shit. I shouldn't have stayed up late last night but I also didn't want to fail in my calculus quiz or else Mr. Montgomery would kill me.

" Get your ass down here or else you're not gonna see the next sunrise, Hazel". Tris shouted from her car as I scrambled my way to the bathroom. Within 5 minutes, I was in front of my wardrobe mirror. I pulled a pale pink oversized hoodie over my head and paired it with a dark wash ripped jeans. I tied my naturally brunette hair in a high ponytail and completed my look with a winged eyeliner and strawberry lip balm. Oh, and for your information, it's my typical everyday look. Boring, I know but I felt more comfortable in it. 8.45 am. I rushed down the stairs and dashed right into the kitchen. Lily was humming softly as she brewed herself some coffee. Travis wasn't anywhere to be seen so he must've left early for work. I grabbed my toast and gave a quick peck on her cheeks.

"I'm running late Lily, bye", I called out. " Be safe, honey". Her reply was faint and distant because I was already at the doorsteps. Well, Lily and Travis weren't my real parents but I've been living with them as long as I could remember. Travis said my dad was involved in some illegal stuff and both my mom and dad in a sort of....gang war. And that's the only thing I knew about them. But I still have the same surname as my parents. Lily does say sometimes that I look like my mom because Lily and Travis were very close to my parents back then. And if you're wondering they adopted me right after my parents passed away.

" Hello, earth to Hazel ?" Tris snapped me out of my train of thoughts and eyed me up and down before shaking her head. I gave her a tight-lipped smile in return and took the passenger seat as she is was the everyday ride to school. The whole journey to the school was dreadfully silent and I knew it's because of my zoning out just now.

Tris and I have been friends for three years now, and she's one of Asher's friends too. Well, actually she's his best friend. We had been so close until the day Asher asked me to be his girlfriend. Tris avoided me for a whole day and I really had no idea why she did that but then things got back to the way they used to be. But, I really didn't feel the same around her. She has become quieter and hot-headed and didn't want to get on her bad side by interfering in her personal life.

We reached the school parking lot just in time before the school bell rang so without wasting any time I raced past the students in the hallway. Who needs detention from Mrs. Maxwell, that's the last thing one would wish for. I entered my classroom corridor and Mrs. Maxwell was chatting with the office boy. Thank god. Mrs. Maxwell hasn't entered the class yet, maybe if I run fast enough she won't notice that I was late. No detention. Yay... I almost entered the class, yes, almost.
