"So where are your parents?"
Junhui kept his focus on the drink he was making for Minghao.
"They're outside the country, for work. Ever since I'm 16 they're off a lot of the times. If I'm right they return on Sunday this time."
Junhui didn't really mind his parents being away that much. Even though it was the main reason he was moving out. He hated to be alone in the dark, especially in a complete house for himself. He found it too big for him alone. An appartement shared with someone else would be much better and smaller. But he had to admit, he was a bit scared of the thought who he might move in with..
"Oh.." Minghao said, a bit sad. Junhui turned around and passed him his drink. "Don't you feel lonely all the time?"
"Sometimes I do, but my parents are pretty chaotic, so I don't mind being alone in a calm place a lot of the times."
Of course he wasn't going to tell him he was scared in the dark. He didn't knew for sure if Minghao would laugh at him if he told so. So this seemed the best way of talking himself out of it.
He saw Minghao gazing in the depth for a bit, which made Junhui worried again. The thought he had a few minutes before came back. What was going on inside his head? Was he actually fine at all?
But Junhui felt scared to ask, since they only met the day before and maybe it would scare Minghao if he asked it too straight forward. Would he mind..?
"H-hey are you okay..?" Immediately Junhui hated himself from stuttering. But he saw Minghao coming back to reality, so I might've worked. Right?
As soon as they made eye contact Minghao just laughed a bit, taking a sip from the drink Junhui made for him. But Junhui heard a sense of sadness in his voice.
He wasn't alright at all and Junhui knew that something was going on..
"I-it's.. eh.. nothing, really don't worry.."
But Junhui did worry. How couldn't he, when he saw someone feeling like this in front of him. He was totally aware of the fact that he had a weak spot for people that felt sad, which you could clearly see. But it made him feel horrible when people hid it and acted as if everything was fine all the time.
Now, all he wanted to do was to comfort the latter. Embrace him in a warm hug and tell him that whatever was going on, he was there for him.
But he knew it was weird. They only just met, maybe Minghao found it awkward? Junhui really didn't wanted to take the risk. Being unpopular wasn't amazing, but it was still a lot better than getting bullied by populars. And so he decided to just awkwardly stand in front of him for a moment, staring at Minghao who seemed to be really interested in the tops of his black Vans sneakers.
"I know this might be weird, but if there is something going on, you can tell me anytime."
Immediately the elder regretted his entire existence. Of course, it seemed like a normal thing to do, comforting the other who clearly wasn't feeling okay. But he didn't know if Minghao thought the same about that.
Junhui started fearing about what he was going to react. Did he push it too far?
Instead he heard Minghao humming, so he looked up and saw how his gaze shifted from the top of his sneakers, to Junhui's face. "Thank you."
Junhui's heart started pounding like crazy again. Out of every scenario he played in his mind, he didn't expected a 'thank you'. Minghao's voice sounded honest, deep, serious and it gave Junhui a tingling feeling deep down in his stomach.
