“Nate, we have been searching for hours and there’s nothing. I don’t want to but do you think maybe we should stop. I am probably just an anomaly, nothing important, maybe I'm a new breed of angel that has only just started?”

“No there is something important about you, I can feel it, and I need to know what it is” I sighed and carried on skimming through the book I was looking at called types of angels, I was in a chapter called ‘appearances’

Warriors-Black hair, neon blue eyes, neon blue wings with silver tips.

Guardians- Blonde hair, brown eyes, white wings with gold tips.

Guards- brown hair, green eyes, red wings with silver tips.

Leaders- grey/silver hair, gold eyes, gold wings.

Messengers- white hair, dark brown eyes, white wings.

Normal angels- any hair colour, any eye colour, grey/white wings.

Great, nothing about any kinds of angels having black and red wings. I dropped my head on the table and closed my eyes, close to crying. I was startled by Nate when he knelt down next to my chair and put his hand on my shoulder.

“We are never going to find the book, there are probably thousands of books here and we have only been through about fifty” I said into my arms, not wanting Nate to see the tears streaming down my face.

“You’re right; there are too many books here. The reason the guy tried to kill you was because he is a demon, and the demons know something we don’t know about you, what ever you are is making them want to kill you so we need to keep you quiet…but if we are going to find out what you are we will need one person to know. And that person is Rose”

“I trust her, but why would Rose be the only person who would need to know?”

“Because she has spent her whole life in this library, she knows every single book here and if there is a book she can find it”

“Fine go get her” He stood up and walked over to the staircase to fetch Rose. When they finally came back down I stood up.

“What kind of book are you looking for then?”

“It’s not that simple” Nate told her “Lex is different, she may look like a warrior but her wings are different and we need to know why. She is being hunted down by demons for it so we need to know”

Before anyone could say anything else I let my wings produce from my back. Hot flames came with them and I screamed. They didn’t burn me though, I felt their warmth but it was almost as if they were covering my wings like wrapping paper. Rose gasped as the flames disappeared leaving my black and red wings as they were last time I saw them.

“It can’t be…”

“What can’t be? What is going on?” I said as she rushed over to a section named ‘legends’. She pulled out a big book covered in dust and dropped it on the table in front of us, sending dust flying into our faces. The title read ‘Angels of Legend’. She flipped through the pages until she landed on a picture of an angel that looked exactly the same as me, with black and red flaming wings.

“There is an old legend that when this extremely powerful angel is born its opposite, a very powerful demon, is born too. When they are both at their peak age, 18, and have their wings and powers, they will fight to the death. This angel was born to defeat this demon and by doing so will have control over all the demons. This angel is you”

I stared at the picture on the page. I was born to defeat the strongest demon and save angels from demons. This cannot be happening.

“We must tell the leaders” said Nate closing the book and picking it up. “Come on Lex”

We rushed out of the library and all the way to the other side of the City to a large hill with a massive marble building at the top. When we reached the door two guards stopped us.

“What is your business here?”

“We need to see the leaders, its urgent”

“That’s what they all say now get lost”

“Please, you don’t understand we need to see them and show them something. If you don’t let us see them the whole angel population could be wiped out. Please” Nate begged.

“Fine” said the guard as the other opened the door. We were led down a long corridor before we reached another door that opened into a massive room with a large table in the middle. Seated at it were about ten angels, all with sliver hair and gold eyes, the leaders.

“What is this?” questioned the one sat in the middle.

“Sorry for interrupting, Raguel, but this is of great importance. In this book it talks of a legend about an angel that is meant to kill an extremely powerful demon and the take control of all the demons, this angel will save angel-kind from demons for the rest of time. This is Lex, my assigned angel and she is that angel”

We waited for a reaction but instead of asking us to prove it the middle angel, Raguel, burst out laughing.

“You really expect us to believe a legend and that this young warrior is meant to save all of angel-kind. Guards escort these two out” he said.

That was it; I couldn’t bear to look at Nate’s rage filled face as they all laughed at him. I stepped forward and released my wings in front of them. The fire erupted again and spread up my wings that I stretched out as much as I could. They all gasped and jumped out of their chairs.

“You still don’t believe him?” I shouted. I saw Nate smiling proudly at me.

“But that’s impossible…” said one of the other leaders.

“Nope, not impossible I am that angel and you better tell me some stuff” This was going to be a walk in the park.
