the school bell rings and it's time for everyone to go back at their respective classrooms, jaemin sees jeno at his chair and immediately approached him

"you're here early", jaemin states as he sits on his chair right behind jeno

jaemin got no response from his friend, so he looked at him and noticed the different aura emitting from the once happy guy

jaemin pats jeno's head slowly, "are you okay?"

jeno nods as he wipes his tears, "of course, i'm fine", jeno looks at his best friend and smiles

jaemin knew he's not fine but he can't do anything about it anymore since their third subject teacher came in

renjun looks at jeno and shakes his head, "don't give me that vibe, i feel uncomfortable"

"i will, i'm sorry", jeno whispers and sighs

"Good Morning, class! I will be your new History teacher. You can call me Mr. Kim", mr. kim greets his students with a smile, the class responds with a smile and a 'good morning' too

"i won't be asking you for your names anymore since you knew each other already and i'm just going to memorize all of you through your class list", mr. kim smiles afterwards

haechan claps, "that's a whole ass talent right over there!"

mr. kim chuckles, "i like you already, kid"

haechan smiled widely and whispers, "of course you do!"

"just a sneak peek for what's about to happen in the whole semester for this subject", he clicks a button on his powerpoint remote and it flashes the powerpoint presentation he prepared for the class; it shows the activities, enabling tasks, and the authentic assessment task to expect in his subject

"good news class because we don't have exams for this subject", mr. kim suddenly blurted out which made the class cheer for delight

renjun had a questioning look but he smiled afterwards anyways

mr. kim moves his right index finger from left to right, "there might be no examinations but the activities, enabling tasks, and the authentic assessment task for this subject will be deadly, even deadlier than your other major subjects"

everyone was deadpan silent after hearing those words from their History teacher

mr. kim clasped his hands together, "so i will be grouping you in pairs, and this pair will be your partner for the whole semester with every activity, enabling task, and authentic assessment task there is"

yeji raised her right hand which got mr. kim's attention and proceeds to ask, "how are we going to find our pairs? in what method?"

"is it through our seatmates?", felix suddenly asks which him and his seatmate, han jisung, got really excited about

everyone groans by the statement given by felix but it was immediately silenced when mr. kim replied, "that's too boring, you will know your pairs through a drill"

"a drill?", chaerin questions as she looks at haejoo's directions, "what does that mean?"

"maybe there will be some activities? or games? i really don't know", haejoo pouts

"i will be giving out papers for you to solve", he picks up the papers from his table and gives it to the students one by one, "there are only two papers with the same answer, so there will only be two persons who can get that specific answer and each other will be your pair throughout the semester!"

sunwoo scans his paper and furrows his eyebrows, "Mr. Kim, why do we have a mathematics-related question?"

"don't worry, there are a few of you"

"but i can't solve this?", sunwoo panics as he looks at chaerin for help, "can we please exchange papers?"

chaerin shows her paper, "i'm sorry but i have a mathematics-related problem too"

sunwoo groans as he goes back to his proper position, hyunjoon looks at sunwoo and sighs, "what if we can't solve the problem, Mr. Kim?"

mr. kim looks at hyunjoon and smirks, "i'm sorry kid but you have to solve the problem"

most of the class let out a groan after hearing that from Mr. Kim, they probably also had a difficult problem to solve

after 10 minutes of answering, everyone in the class finally got the answers for the different problems given

"this drill is unique, can we have this in the next subjects?", renjun asks at jaemin but the latter just shrugs

mr. kim taps the stick he brought on the table to get everyone's attention, "now, you have to look for people with the same answer as yours. once you find them, they will be your permanent seatmate for this class and your partner for all of the activities. i will give you five minutes to find your partners."

students started standing one by one to find their partners; renjun approached haechan first and to his surprise, they got the same answers

"AAAAAAAAAAAA WHY? I WAS EXPECTING SOMEONE MORE HELPFUL THOUGH", renjun complains in front of haechan

haechan sends him death glares, "shut up! i help at times too! don't act as if i'm that lazy"

jeno chuckles, "because you are", jeno suddenly bumps into haejoo but the guy quickly moves away; before he could even walk away, haejoo grabs his wrist, stopping him from walking away further

"do you need anything, hae?", jeno looks at her. even though the pain was still there from the event he saw earlier, he still tried to give out his smile. yes, he doesn't have the right to be jealous. he just realized that if maybe he did a move earlier, he will not be experiencing this kind of pain.

haejoo shows her paper at jeno, "maybe we have the same answer?"

jeno gives haejoo a shocking look as he looks at the paper, he smiles slightly and shows her his paper too, "we do have the same answer"

meanwhile, jaemin already looked through everyone's paper and none of them had the same answer as his, the only papers that he didn't looked up to are that of shuhua and chaerin

he approached shuhua first but the lady quickly shakes her head even before jaemin could ask, "i'm actually pairs with yiren, i'm sorry jaemin"

jaemin nods and goes at chaerin's direction, chaerin jumps from her seat and shows jaemin her paper, "i guess we're partners?"

"i guess we are", jaemin chuckles as he shows chaerin his paper

chaerin cheered as jaemin gives her smiles, "from now on, i'll call you chae and i'll be your jae!"
