Well, that was a bit of an exaggeration. He was the best on the team. He knew that, but it wasn't like he had a large ego or anything. It was plain fact.
Shooting a 3-pointer at a Saturday morning practice, Yoongi ran a hand through his sweaty hair and grinned as the team captain, Kihyun, gave him a fist bump.
"Go get washed up, we're done for today!" Kihyun yelled to the other team members. As they dispersed, Kihyun turned to Yoongi, a grin gracing his features. "Keep playing like that and we're definitely winning on Monday."
Yoongi shrugged. He wasn't good at taking compliments, so he kept his mouth shut and let others run their mouths.
Yoongi took the bus home and arrived to an empty house, his parents still at work and his brother out of the city. Switching on the TV, Yoongi collapsed on the couch and closed his eyes, exhaling.
The game on Monday.
He also had 2 tests that day, and a project due. Being in his last year of high school, and on a sports team, it was becoming hard to manage.
A distorted voice spoke on the TV, startling Yoongi into opening his eyes and sitting upright. Seoul's infamous villain, Shadow, was on the screen, and by the way he was holding himself, he was happy.
It was never good when a villain was happy.
"People of Seoul!" Shadow said. "I'm sure you're all aware of our favorite superhero, Persona, yes? Well, you sure are in for a treat, Seoul, because I know something that none of you do!"
This couldn't be good, Yoongi thought. He bounced his leg in worry. Where was Persona?
"I know his identity! That's right, guys, gals, and non-binary pals—"
"At least he's inclusive," Yoongi mumbled to himself.
"I know who Persona really is!"
Yoongi couldn't help but be intrigued. He had his theories as to who the blue haired hero really was — not that he wanted to spread Persona's identity to the whole world, but simply because he was too curious of a boy. And ever since Persona had crash landed in his backyard a year ago, seeming to not know how to fly, Yoongi had to know who was behind the mask.
He had to know who Seoul's hero was.
And now that Shadow was going to reveal it, he felt a little guilty for wanting to know. It wouldn't be good for Persona, or his family, if he was exposed to the world. That would be dangerous. If he wanted his name known, he wouldn't be wearing a mask.
Still, in spite of his morals telling him not to, Yoongi leaned closer to the TV.
"Persona is none other than Kim Namj—"
The TV cut off suddenly, turning black. The lights shut off, too, but it was afternoon and it was sunny outside. In more ways than one, Yoongi wasn't left in the dark.
"Kim Namjoon," Yoongi said to himself in a whisper. "Persona is Kim Namjoon."
-
2 hours later, the power came back on. Yoongi's phone buzzed with notification from the basketball team's group chat. They were all talking about Shadow, and how badly they wanted to know Persona's identity.
Did that mean they didn't hear what Yoongi did?
Yoongi swallowed, shoving his phone back in his pocket. Whoever cut off Seoul's power didn't get to his TV fast enough. Of all the people in Seoul...
Him.
Min Yoongi, basketball player and struggling high school student, a regular boy who could never be a hero, or even any help to a hero.
By coincidence, or maybe by fate, Yoongi now knew who Persona was. The only question was: what would he do with this information?

"Give us a run-down on the technology, Kook," Namjoon said the next day, a Sunday, when the team was gathered together.
Taehyung was still half-asleep and Jimin had run out of the house without breakfast, but when Jungkook had texted the group chat that he'd found a solution to their Shadow problem, everyone rushed over, eager to know what was up.
Jungkook opened his hand. Sitting on his palm was a small, black dome-shaped device.
Seokjin squinted at it. "What's it do?"
"It's kinda like Hoseok's ring," Jungkook said, eyes lighting up they way they always did when he began talking about one of his inventions. "It emits a buzzing sound, except I've made it so that it counteracts what the ring does. If we can get it close enough to Hoseok 'n get him to wear it for more than 24 hours, he might be able to snap out of the mind control."
"You might have to repeat that for Taehyung," Namjoon chuckled, pointing at the half-asleep boy.
"No need, I understood," Taehyung mumbled, eyes closed and head on Seokjin's shoulder. "How do we get it close enough to Hoseok and have him keep it on his person for a whole day?"
"That's... where I have no idea what to do," Jungkook admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. "Jimin? Don't you have tutoring?"
"Actually... I scored 98% on my last Chem test, so I won't have any tutoring for a while..."
"We don't know how much time we have before Hoseok goes and robs another bank, or maybe worse," Namjoon said. He ran a hand through his hair, sighing. "We'll have to find some other way. Maybe Seokjin...?"
"No," Taehyung said, suddenly very awake. "I'm not letting Seokjin hyung near Hoseok again."
"Then you do it, Tae."
"No."This time, it was Seokjin. "No way am I letting Taehyung get close to a super villain."
Jungkook cleared his throat. "I'll do it!"
"No way, Kook," Namjoon said. "I can—"
"He knows your identity, hyung," Jungkook interrupted. "You can't go to school until take him down, or he might endanger everyone in the building just to get to you. I'm our best bet."
"Logically, he's right," Taehyung said. "But if you don't execute this properly..."
"Then we're all screwed," Jungkook finished. "Yeah, I know. I'll do my best, hyungs, and if this works, we'll be able to stop Hoseok once and for all."
