Can Dolly survive The Vampire Diaries finale?
Holly and Damon got back together—finally—in the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries. But will the fan-favorite couple be able to make it to the end with both of them, together and intact?
"They've had a really beautifully bumpy journey so far, and things aren't going to calm down. Fans of the ship, as the kids say, will really have to prepare themselves," Skye Somerhalder tells E! News on the show's Atlanta set.
Ian Somerhalder, added to that, warning of a bit more trouble ahead for Dolly. "It's pretty obvious that these two are crazy about each other, sometimes literally. When Damon loves, he does it with his entire being. Holly has become his whole world, everything he does is with her in mind. With the appearance of some old faces though, the notion of love being enough to withstand anything will really be tested."
To be fair, both of them have a lot on their plate. "Holly is still adjusting to Vampire life, reeling from Damon's latest 'death', plus all they went through with Sybil and Cade. Damon is busy trying to be there for Bonnie after losing Enzo, protect his brother, look after Holly and all those things, so we're seeing these characters in a little bit more of a grown-up light, which is refreshing," Skye adds.
With the announcement that Nina Dobrev will be returning to the show for the final two episodes, fans of TVD have been questioning what that means for Dolly?
The last time we saw Elena Gilbert she was being put away in a coffin, cursed by Holly's brother Kai to not wake up until the death of her closest friend Bonnie.
Does this mean Bonnie is one of the rumoured deaths? Is there yet another doppelgänger Nina will be portraying? Or, is it the legendary Katherine Pierce that will be making a comeback?"Obviously I can't give anything away, but I am so excited to work with Nina again. The show began with her and it is only right that it ends with her too," Ian put in, wife Skye nodding enthusiastically in agreement.
"I was a fan of the show long before I was in it," Skye explained. "As a fan I know how excited the viewers are going to be when they see Nina mixed in with the current cast. In whatever capacity she comes back, her return is going rock Mystic Falls for sure. Whether as Elena, Katherine or someone else she will definitely test our characters. Damon and Holly had better be prepared."
It's tough to watch a beloved show end. Yes, it's nice to get some closure for the characters who have become friends in our heads, but it's hard knowing that there are only a couple more new episodes to get our teeth stuck in to (see what we did there).
"It feels like the beautiful closure we all needed, myself included," Ian making the last comments on behalf of them both. "I couldn't be happier than knowing I'm ending this huge chapter of my life with not only my TVD family by my side, but with my real family too. This show has given both Skye and I so much, and to put into words how we'll feel filming as Damon and Holly together for the last time, is near on impossible. I'm excited, but dreading it at the same time. We just know the fans will love the way we've brought the show to an end and we can't for you all to see it."
