Chapter Nineteen
Everything seems frozen in time, as if the world has stopped turning. Her last words echo in my head continuously. Edisto Island? Was she serious? If she was kidding it was some type of sick joke. "Mom, are you kidding me?" I question, still unaware of what was going on.
She tucks a piece of her hair behind her ear and places her hands on her hip in the typical 'mother' stance. "No, I am not kidding. We're moving to Edisto so I can become a real estate agent. An agency that I called called me back this morning and wanted to hire me but they need me Saturday, which is tomorrow."
The world begins to rotate again as I absorb it all. She was serious. We were really moving to Edisto, where I made my first best friend, and where I found what true love was. How could this be? It's unfathomable but so amazing at the same time. "So, I get to see Greyson again?" I question, my voice shaky. My mom nods and even my brother cracks a small smile, him knowing how excited I was.
I can't help but squeal with excitement as I hug my mom tightly. "Oh my gosh, this is amazing! I need to pack, oh crap!" I spit out after releasing my mother. Quickly, I give a hug to my dad who is laughing loudly and head to my room already planning what to pack.
As I observe my room, I silently thank God that I didn't have many things. The majority of my room consisted of pictures, my clothes - which I only had two drawers of , and my guitar. Rapidly, I grab my suitcase and throw everything into it. I wasn't even nervous about moving surprisingly. The new start would be adjustable and I'd be closer to my two best friends. What could be better?
About thirty minutes later I'm finished packing and I observe my bare walls. The orange of the sun reflecting off the white wall reminded me of a South Carolina sunset. This made me yearn to be there already. But I relax knowing that tomorrow I'll be there, and so will Greyson.

Lugging my suitcase behind me, I swing open the door of our new two story beach house. Instantly, my breath feels as if it had been sucked out of my chest. The entry way opened up to an enormous living room. The couches were made out of wicker baskets and a light green cushion giving a tropical feel to the area. The walls were a light orange reflecting the sunshine into the room.
I spot four doors leading to different rooms and I enter the first one on the right. Immediately, I claim it as mine considering it had a balcony. Dropping my luggage, I open up the two glass doors and step out onto the landing. The ocean breeze fills my lungs as I inhale deeply.
The sight before me was beautiful. The sea was a clear blue, so clear it seemed to be glowing. Cormorants flew high in the noon sky playing with each other. The golden sand radiated warmth into the breeze. I knew I was meant to be here. The song I had written for Greyson immediately pops into my head. 'And I won't call SOS no message in a bottle. I'm not signaling in smoke, I'm trying to not get home.'
Finally, I truly understand the lyrics. At first, I just wrote them because they rhymed but now I knew what my heart was saying. Even though I am away from everything I am used to - the busy highways, honking cars, continuous traffic - I had never felt more stranded in my life. But, somehow I enjoyed this quiet place. I never want to leave.
***************
The whole time we are unpacking and setting up furniture I nearly spaz. I couldn't wait to see Greyson and surprise him but I had made a deal with my dad that I would assist in setting up considering I was going to be living there for a while. Finally, we let down the last bed frame and I sigh in accomplishment.
"Finished!" I announce as I plop onto my bed. Honestly, I was exhausted. Apparently, I had been thinking aloud and my mom said, "Exhausted enough to not see Greyson?" Shooting up I shake my head no and my mom smirks. "Well, hurry up. It's right across the street but I want you back soon, Greyson can come if he wants. Oh, and also-"
I don't even hear the rest of her request. I am already out the door and racing down the steps of my new home.
*********
Moments later I am waiting outside of Greyson's door nervously playing with my fingers. I had been gone for two weeks, would he still act the same? I guess I would have to found out, wouldn't I? Knocking on the door, I hear a voice yell, "Hang on a minute!" My heart speeds up in my chest. It was Greyson's voice.
The door swings open and there he stands. I can't help but smile as his mouth drops open and he stutters, "D-Drew?" All I can do is nod as he wraps his arms around me and spins me in the air, laughing uncontrollably. "What are you doing here?" He asks as he sets me down. I spit out everything about the move and my moms new job while he just grins.
"Baby, that's fantastic!" He adds hugging me again. "You have no idea how much I have missed you," he whispers into my ear. "And how much I've missed doing this." He leans in and lightly presses his lips against mine sending millions of tiny bolts of electricity racing over my skin. When he pulls away I feel that my face is bright red.
"You should know how much I've missed that." I state smirking at him. "I missed you so much." I add. He nods and kisses my forehead. "Promise to never leave again, please. I can't let you go, I love you too much." At those words I look up and smile at him like an idiot. "I promise Greyson, and I love you too." As Greyson looked down at me and brushed my hair behind my ear I knew immediately what he was doing.
Once our lips connect in another kiss I feel like everything fits together like pieces of a puzzle. Finally, after what seemed like forever I was content again. Even now I wasn't worrying about Emma. Nothing was in my mine but one thing or should I say one person. Greyson.
