Can I Call You Mine

Chapter 6

'Pregnant.' It was still hard to wrap his mind over yesterday's event. The doctor reading the results played over and over again in his head.

Shaking and with his heart trying to pound out of his chest, the reaction making it hard to breathe. On the exam bed, he felt his world fall apart twice as the doctor spoke the foreign words. Failing to stay calm, he was trembling with fear inside, 'This can't be!'

He wanted to be with Sai when he found out such happy news, well what should've been happy news. And not with the Sai he'd just discovered, but with his Sai he'd known before the day he discovered the truth.

Naruto mused at how they would be crying tears of happiness and sharing kisses on finding out they were going to be parents. Now...they would never have that. Such a dream would only be a forlorn reality.

The blonde had asked Neji to buy him a few pregnancy tests on their way home from the appointment, finding it hard to believe the doctor who smiled at him and Neji in sympathy, thinking it was just the natural shock of becoming new parents. The blue stick that he gripped tightly in his hands has produced a positive sign after he had peed on it. It was the fifth one he had taken within the last hour. The two bold straight lines, an unmistakably sign, pointing out that there was life forming inside of him...a human being. A tiny living human depending on him to live.

Naruto couldn't stop staring at the object with horrified acknowledgment. Nothing could make the shaking disappear, 'This is a disaster.' Everything that he had been experiencing made - he dare say...sense.

The dizziness, feeling nauseous throughout the day, tired and the migraines.

He was pulled out of his own delirium when he heard a knock on the bathroom door. "Naruto can I come in?" He hesitantly gave his acknowledgement, trying to get control of the sniffling when Neji came in.

The brunette met the sight of the distraught blonde sitting on top of the toilet seat, once ocean blues now red from crying staring at the pregnancy test held loosely in his hand. Neji kneeled before him.

Giving the best comforting smile he could master. "Hey." The dark haired man said in a small voice. "You've been in here for a long-while and I was wondering if you like to come and eat?"

The younger just shook his head, "How can everything be so messed up?" He asked suddenly, but continued before Neji could respond, "We had talked and dreamt about this moment as if we knew how everything would go in our future."

"Sai had always wanted a baby girl, said he'd make her a daddies girl." He wiped a tear from his eye; his laugh married with a bittersweet tone as he peered into lavender eyes, "Neji I feel so confused, scared and...alone." He licked his lips and nervously looked upon the brunette in need of an explanation.

Neji shook his head at his supposed husband, "Hay. Hay," he whispered whilst taking both tan hands into his and gently gave the blonde's a squeeze to try and comfort him as best as he could. "Now you're not alone, you have me and everyone that loves you here in Konoha." A sob escaped his lips, tugging his hands gently from Neji's grasp so he could wrap his arms around his stomach. "This isn't the Naruto I know. Where's the Naruto that fell and stood up with his head held high?"

Naruto bit his lip whilst more tears forming in his eyes, "He doesn't exist anymore." He said in a small voice.

Neji stared at the broken man before him. He gently pulled Naruto into his arms, stroking strands of gold, "You're never alone, okay. You have me and everyone else here that loves you."

He buried his face into the crook of the long haired man's neck. "I'm afraid I'll screw up," he started. "Heck I've already screwed up!" Giving a bitter chuckle at his own statement. "I mean, I've been with an imposter for FIVE years. I was so blinded by this charming strong man who turned out to be a possible murderer."
